The Back to Basics Quick Coffee Sleeve is a free pattern that is crocheted in Medium Weight Yarn [4] with a 5.5 mm (I) hook. This very easy crochet pattern is worked back and forth in rows before being seamed.

The simple crochet rib stitch adds texture and creates a stretchy fabric that can fit on many different sizes of coffee cups. This sleeve will also fit easily onto water bottles and cold drink cups.

My children love to use them when they get ice cream sundaes too; it lets them hold onto their treats without getting cold fingers.

Slip Knot and Starting Chain

Notes:

Multiple of 1 (plus 1 for the turning chain) (Understanding Stitch Multiples)

When I work into the foundation chain, I prefer working into the back bar (back bump) of the chain. You can work under the back loop only if you prefer.

To add one inch of height, increase the starting chain by 3.

You may customize the length by repeating R2 as many, or as few, times as you wish.

This project is crocheted lengthwise back-and-forth in rows.

Using your 5.5 mm (I) hook (or size required for gauge):

R1: Ch 12, sk the first ch, 1 sc in each ch across. Ch 1, turn.  [11 sc]

R2-R26: 1 sc in BL of each sc across. Ch 1, turn. [11 sc]

Proceed to finishing instructions.

Finishing Instructions for the Back to Basics Quick Coffee Sleeve

Finish off leaving a 6-inch tail of yarn for seaming.

On a flat surface, fold your project in half bringing the first and last rows together and lining up the stitches. Thread your yarn end on a yarn needle and work through both layers; whipstitch (view tutorial here) once for each stitch. I worked under the back loop from the last row and both loops from R1.

Once you have finished seaming the side of the cup sleeve, weave in any remaining ends securely.
