The Yarn
The yarn used for this project was given to me by KnitPal.
Cotton to the Core Worsted is a Medium Weight Yarn [4] and a blend of 65% cotton and 35% acrylic. This yarn is created by combining a unique cotton netting with a super soft acrylic yarn core. The result is a durable yarn with a fuzzy halo.
The distinctive fiberfill netting construction creates an airy fabric with a fuzzy halo and fabulous stitch definition.
KnitPal
I love how this yarn looks and feels.
The stitch definition is amazing with this yarn. I’m not sure if it is because the halo sort of outlines each stitch, or that it is because of the color I chose I love the way my stitches look.
I’ve used it before to make a beautiful blanket. You can see that project here: Darkness Blanket Pattern
With just one ball of KnitPal Cotton to the Core Worsted yarn you can make my Love this Hat in any of the 8 included sizes.
See the other colors available in the Cotton to the Core line here.

Thank you so much
Hi Christine, The stitches in the hat would be upside down if it were worked from the top down and then the band would need to be added afterwards in rows to the already finished hat. I currently don’t have a pattern written to make this in the reverse method. I’m sorry. Rhondda
Is it possible to crochet this beautiful hat from top down please. Would love to do it this way.
Thank you Cindy ♥
Melinda is not beginning the cluster in the same stitch that last stitch was worked. Thank you for this pattern. It is simple and well written. I made it for my 3 year old g-granddaughter using a Hobby Lobby yarn.
Hi Melinda,
I think maybe you are trying to make the first round of hdc3tog-cl stitches for all rounds of the hat instead of only following the instructions for the first round of hdc3tog-cl for the first round? After the first round you would need to follow the instructions in the Special Stitches Section for hdc3tog-cl which works into the stitches and the ch1sps. It is also important to note that the cluster stitch always begins on the same stitch as the last leg of the last stitch was worked so there is some overlap. This allows the stitch to remain constant instead of decreasing.
here’s the special stitches instructions:
hdc3tog-cl st
This cluster stitch begins in the same st as the last st that was worked. Yarn over and insert your hook into the same st as the last st that was worked, yarn over and pull up 1 loop. You now have 3 loops on your hook. Yarn over and insert your hook into the next ch1sp, yarn over and pull up 1 loop. You now have 5 loops on your hook. Yarn over and insert your hook into the next st, yarn over and pull up 1 loop. You now have 7 loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through all 7 loops on your hook then ch 1 to complete the stitch.
There is also a cl-dec you will need to work later and it is explained in the special stitches section.
I hope this helps! Rhondda
I’m confused with the body. Row 2 has 3 stitches combined into 1. Row 3 does the same so tha5 makes Row 2 = 44 stitches so Row 3 would equal 22 stitches, Row 4 would equal 11 for an adult cap. What am I doing wrong?
Hi Kristyn, I’m away right now but will try to look at this tonight!
I am confused. The directions say to skip the ch1 sp but the pictures look like you have worked into the ch1 sp.
