How to Crochet the Single Crochet Stitch

BEGINNER LEVEL LESSON 2 HOW TO CROCHET SINGLE CROCHET STITCH OOMBAWKADESIGNCROCHET

For the purposes of the video tutorials I begin with a chain of 21 stitches and after working my first row of sc I have 20 stitches. I continue with these 20 stitches in each of the video tutorials to follow for the Beginner Crochet Series (in case you want to work along!). To watch this video in 1080 p HD on YouTube, click HERE.

Tip: Unless the pattern instructions you are following indicate otherwise, the single crochet stitch is worked under both loops of the stitch (i.e. the front and back loops).

For those of you who prefer photo tutorial instructions, please see below:

Single Crochet Stitch

Insert your hook under both loops (the front and back loop) of the stitch indicated; yarn over the hook and pull up 1 loop (you now have 2 loops on the hook); yarn over the hook and pull through both loops on the hook.
