Welcome to Oombawka Design Crochet! Today, as part of the Spring Colors Blog Hop with Design, Create, Repeat, I am sharing a brand-new crochet pattern you can make with 2 balls of Lion Brand Mandala Tweed Yarn. The Susannah Springtide Shawl is an easy-to-crochet project you can make over a weekend.
The Susannah Springtide Shawl by @oombawkadesigncrochet is a soft and cozy spring accessory. Embrace spring with this rectangular wrap draped over your shoulders, or across your lap. Soft, cozy and easy-to-crochet, this spring shawl is crocheted with 2 skeins of #mandalatweed by Lion Brand Yarn.
The yarn I used to make this lovely rectangular shawl was given to me by Yarn Canada.
The Lion Brand Mandala Tweed yarn is a beautifully soft, medium weight yarn and the color transitions are done very cleverly. I did not cut and piece this yarn to make the shawl work, I simply crocheted my Susannah Springtide Shawl in one piece (other than adding my new ball and one color rejoin), from start-to-finish. I was happily surprised with how well the yarn transitioned from one color to the next.
When I crochet I always use a center pull method (if possible) and this cake of yarn was no exception. I did not have any knots, or tangles as I crocheted. I did have one small color-tied section from the manufacturer that I cut and rejoined before crocheting across it. I like to make my own, secure color joins – just to be sure it doesn’t come undone at a later time. The yarn did not pile, or leave any fluff while I crocheted and I really loved working with it.
The Mandala Tweed yarn is created by Lion Brand, by twisting 2 strands of their Mandala yarn together. The result is this pretty self-striping, tweed effect. Each 200 g cake of yarn includes 520 yards. The yarn is 100% acrylic and machine washable and dryable. Making it perfect for projects, like garments and blankets!
Did I remember to mention it is lovely and soft? When I was finished making this project, I actually wished I had more of the yarn to make something else. It was such a pleasure to crochet with, especially during the colder months when my fingers are a bit drier from the harsher weather.
Mandala Tweed is currently available in 3 colors: Lucky Penny, Seven and Dice. You can take a look at them here. I chose Dice to make my project as it reminded me of the colors of the crocus and daffodils that bloom first in my Spring Garden every year after our winter snow finally recedes.
If you are in Canada you should check out the yarn at Yarn Canada. They are located in BC, Canada and ship to Canadian addresses with a a reasonable flat rate shipping of $5.00* (or free shipping if your order is over $55.00*). Along with Lion Brand Yarn, they also carry stock in the following brands: Scheepjes, Berroco, Noro, Manos del Uruguay, Cascade Yarn, Hoooked Yarn and Drops Yarn.
