Granada Afghan Pattern

The Granada Afghan can be crocheted in 3 different sizes simply by changing the yarn and the hook you use with the pattern.

Afghan Sizes Available

  • Adult Afghan| 49.25 inches X 67 inches |Medium Weight Yarn [4]| 4 mm (G) crochet hook
  • Child Afghan | 43.75 inches X 59.50 inches | DK (Sport/Baby) Weight Yarn [3] | 3.75 mm (F) crochet hook
  • Baby Afghan | 39.5 inches X 53.5 inches | DK (Sport/Baby) Weight Yarn [3] | 3.50 mm (E) crochet hook

The pattern is provided in written form in US Crochet Terminology and 2 optional graphs have also been included to illustrate the stitches for those who prefer working from graphs.

Although this stunning afghan looks difficult to make, it is incredibly easy-to-crochet!

The Granada Afghan is crocheted using an easy-to-learn technique. You actually work with only a single color of yarn for every row.

You crochet single crochet stitches in the back-loop for some rows of crochet and then you will work double crochet stitches in the remaining front loop of a stitch, 2 rows prior in an alternate color to create the intricate-looking design.

The effect is similar to Mosaic Knitting (or Slip Stitch Knitting) but using crochet stitches instead. This is similar to the technique used to create the old-time vintage Native American Navajo Afghans.

Only simple stitches are used to make this afghan, so I feel a determined beginner would be able to master the pattern. You will only need to understand where to find the front loops and back loops of your stitches, single crochet, double crochet and slip stitches.  I love how easy this technique makes it to crochet mosaic-style designs.

Carol has prepared a video to help you master the technique too. Watch the video here.

The Granada Afghan eBook is available for purchase from Shady Lane Original Crochet Designs. The current price (which is subject to change) at the time of this post being written is $6.95 USD.
