Notes:
Do not ch 1 or sl st to join unless specified in the pattern instructions.
Chain stitches do not count as stitches

Rnd 1: RS: Work 8 sc in a DMR [8 sc] Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around [16 sc] Rnd 3: 1 sc in each st around [16 sc] Rnd 4- Rnd 7: Rep Rnd 3.
R8: 1 sc in the next 8 sts. Leave the rest of the sts unworked. Ch 1, turn. [8 sc] R9-12: Rep R8 [8 sc]
After R12 the stocking should look like the first image below.
(1) After Row 12, (2) Where we work along the row ends; (3) Row 13 sl st to join
You will now work along the row ends to create the ankle of the stocking.
See the center image above.
With the outside of the stocking facing and starting at 1 in the center image above:
R13: Work 16 sc evenly along the row ends and the front ankle of the stocking. Sl st to first sc to join (see the image below, the sl st is the one with the stitch marker). You will seam up the back rows (the gap beneath the stitch marker) after you have finished crocheting the entire stocking. [16 sc]
We now work around the stocking in rounds.
Rnd 14: 1 sc in each st around [16 sc]
Rnd 15-Rnd 22: Rep Rnd 14 [16 sc]
Rnd 23: 1 sc in each of the next 4 sts, ch 16, sl st to the first ch to join to form the hanging loop. 1 sc in each rem st around. [16 sc, ch 16 loop]
The Ch 16 in Rnd 23 is the strap you will use to hang the stocking. Optionally you can attach a button to the other side of the stocking and use this loop as a closure – if say you were using the stocking as a gift card holder. It will help the gift card stay put in the stocking. See image below.
Rnd 24: 1 sc in each st around. Move the tie to the inside when you crochet in the base of the st (see image 1 below). Finish off with an invisible join or tight slip stitch. [16 sc]

Turn the stocking inside out and sew the 5 back rows closed to make the heel of the stocking.
You can use a backstitch, whipstitch, or your favorite seaming method to do this.

Please ignore my prior comment. I see a smaller pattern now. Hard to see it all on my phone. Thanks!
You show different sizes in your photos. Do you have an even smaller version than 5 inches tall? If so how do you adjust the pattern? Thanks! These are just what I’ve been looking for.
