The Houndstooth Crochet Stitch
The Houndstooth Crochet Stitch is a beginner-friendly stitch because it is created by alternating double crochet (dc) and single crochet (sc) stitches. It is crocheted with a multiple of 2+1 stitches.
To decrease the number of yarn ends you need to weave in, many crocheters work over the unused yarn color on each row. Working over the unused yarn creates a thicker and warmer finished fabric.
If you prefer though, you can finish off at the end of each row instead. This will make a lighter weight fabric. You would need to change colors for each of the repeat rows, so this method would give you 4 yarn ends to weave in with your tapestry needle, for each row, making it a bit more time consuming.

TIP: When you are working the houndstooth crochet stitch in joined rounds you can carry the unused color up the inside seam of the project, instead of finishing off, or working over it. The outside (right side) of your project will be neat and tidy.
