Special Stitches

Long Crochet Stitches

  • When working the long double crochet (ldc) stitches, we work into the ch1sp that falls 2 rows below the current row. We work around the work (enclosing the rows) for the stitch.
  • Long stitches are made by pulling the ‘yarn over and pull up a loop’ section of the stitches, to the height of a regular stitch being worked in the current row. For example for the long double crochet you will: yarn over, insert hook into the specified chsp, yarn over and pull up 1 loop to the height of a regular stitch in the current row, yarn over and pull through 2 loops, yarn over and pull through the remaining 2 loops.

Color Changes

  • When I changed colors I replaced the last yarn over, of the last double crochet for the round before the new color, with the new yarn color (see photo tutorial following pattern).
  • I carried the unused color up the inside of the hat and switched back to the original color in the same way.

Helpful Tutorial

Notes:

  • Multiple of 4
  • You may substitute your favorite method for starting in rounds for the DMR (double magic ring) if you prefer.
  • Initial ch 3 does not count as a stitch and we do not work into it – until indicated.
  • Sl st to join is made in the first st of the round (skipping over the ch 3).
  • You can make your slip stitches tightly as we will not be working into them.
  • Work the first st of each round into the same stitch that has the slip stitch join and initial ch 3.
  • If you’d like to increase the hat height, work more repeat rounds.
  • Photo tutorial follows the written pattern below.
