Winter Sky Hat Pattern

Here’s how it works.
My Winter Sky Hat Pattern is available in sizes baby to adult large. This crocheted hat is great quick project that you can make in just a couple hours.
To make my Winter Sky Hat you will need Chunky Weight Yarn [5] and both a 5 mm (H) crochet hook (for the hat band/brim) and a 6 mm (J) crochet hook for the hat body.
My Winter Sky Hat Pattern is available in sizes 0-3 months, 3-6 months, 6-12 months, 12-24 months, small child (3-5 years), child (6-10 years), teen, adult (medium) and adult (large).
I designed this hat to reach between mid-ear and the base of your earlobe. It fits like a cozy beanie but if you’d like to make it a slouch hat instead it is simple to do! Just work the repeat section an additional time (or two) to add some extra hat height.

The Yarn I used
For my Winter Sky Hat I used 3.1 oz (89 g) and 149 yds (135 m) of King Cole Shadow Chunky yarn, in the shade Mercury (4008).
King Cole yarn is available from your local yarn shop, or online at the links in my post below.
Shadow Chunky Yarn is 100% Premium Acrylic and I love the shades that were blended for each ball of yarn. There aren’t any significant color stripes or chunks as the shades flow into each other so perfectly. The colors have a bit of a watercolored look to them and there is a soft lustre to the stitches when the light hits them.
This yarn is great for winter wearables and bonus! it is machine washable and dryable too.

Notes:
- Multiple of 2 + 1
- The back bar is also referred to as the third loop. It is the loop that is directly behind and below the back loop of the hdc, on the back (WS) of the work.
- To increase the hat height by 1.5 inches, work Rnd 3 and Rnd 4 one more time, plus 1 round of hdc. Or, simply add an additional Rnd 3 after each repeat section; so instead of repeating just Rnd 3 and Rnd 4 once, work an additional Rnd 3 for each section. Or for even more height Work the repeat of Rnd 3 and Rnd 4 twice before adding the hdc rounds afterwards.

Hi Roberta, I’m so sorry to hear your friend has cancer. I hope this hat is comfortable for her to wear. She may need a smaller size hat than she would normally wear if she is losing her hair. I know for my Dad, his hat size became smaller when he lost his hair; he had thick curly hair too. Cancer is such a terrible disease. Thinking of your friend and you as you go through this together. xo Rhondda
Thank you so much! I’m crocheting beanies & hats for my friend whose cancer has spread everywhere in her body in the past 2 months and is losing all of her beautiful hair. This pattern will be a wonderful addition to her collection made by me!
