The Yarn

Mary Maxim Starlette Worsted

Mary Maxim Starlette Worsted is a soft, durable medium weight yarn that gives this scarf great texture and drape. The light aqua shows the stitch definition nicely, but any solid or lightly variegated color will work well.

Notes:

  • Multiple of 2+1
  • When I work into the foundation chain, I prefer working into the back bar (back bump) of the chain. You can work under the back loop only if you prefer.
  • If you’d like to increase the scarf length, chain more stitches using the stitch multiple.
  • If you’d like to increase the width of the project, work more rows following the stitch repeat.
  • We work into the space beneath the puff stitches, not the PS itself. Please review the stitch anatomy photos of the PS so you know where to place your hook (above in the special stitches section).
  • Row by row photos follow the written pattern.

Crocheters Often Ask

Can I make the scarf longer or shorter?

Yes. The stitch repeat makes it easy to adjust the length to suit your preference.

Can I use a different yarn?

Yes. Any worsted weight yarn will work. If you change yarn weight, you may need to adjust the hook size.

Are puff stitches beginner friendly?

Puff stitches are easy to learn and repeat once you get started. The two-row repeat helps keep the pattern simple.

Does this stitch pattern work for other projects?

Yes. This stitch pattern also works well for blankets, cowls, and other winter accessories.

I loved making this triangle scarf and watching the colors shift from light silvery green to deep grey-black. The Evergreen Mist Scarf pairs perfectly with the matching hat for a soft, cozy winter set.

This scarf looks great in solid colors that show off the puff stitch texture, but it also works well in subtle heathers and tonal yarns. Try pairing it with different winter shades or adding fringe for a personalized finish.
