Here’s how it works.
Stay warm this winter with the Winter Frost Scarf! This simple and pretty crochet pattern uses Worsted Weight Yarn and a 6 mm (J) hook to make a scarf that’s 5.5 inches wide and 59 inches long. You can customize it to any size—even a blanket! It’s an easy-intermediate project that works up in just a few hours. Pair it with next week’s Winter Frost Hat for a matching set!
The free written pattern is available in my post below, or if you prefer, you can purchase the ad-free PDF crochet pattern from my shop.

Ice Blue Winter Frost Scarf
The Winter Frost Scarf works up quickly—just a few hours—and makes a thoughtful handmade gift for friends and family. Its simple design and cozy texture are perfect for keeping warm during winter, and you can customize the size to suit anyone. Fast to crochet and beautiful to wear, it’s a gift they’ll love!
The Yarn
For this month’s Crochet Club Patterns, I used Soft Classic™ Solid Yarn by Loops & Threads®. I don’t know if you’ve tried this yarn yet but if you like 100% acrylic yarn I definitely recommend you take a look at this line of yarns at Michaels. I love the colors that they have available and the price-point is fantastic (in Ontario, Canada as I write this post it is *$4.99 CAD). The ball size is generous too!
Soft Classic™ Solid Yarn by Loops & Threads®

Helpful Tutorial
Notes:
- Stitch multiple of 4+2
- When I work into the foundation chain, I prefer working into the back bar (back bump) of the chain. You can work under the back loop only if you prefer.
- Turning ch 3 does not count as stitch.
- The first stitch of each row is worked into the same stitch that has a ch 3 in it. This removes the gap (hole in the fabric) that would appear if we were counting the ch 3 as a stitch.
- To make this scarf longer, chain more stitches using the stitch multiple.
- To increase the width of the scarf, work more rows using the repeat section of the pattern.
- For the side edging you may make as many or as few sc as you wish (I made 17 on each edge). Try to make the same number on each side edge.
- Add the Winter Frost Scarf Pattern to your Ravelry library here.

Create your project page on Ravelry here for your Winter Frost Scarf.
Next week I will be releasing the pattern for a matching Winter Frost Hat, so stay tuned!
You can use any yarn and hook to make this cozy scarf project!
- With the yarn and hook you’ve chosen for the project, chain until you reach the length you’d like for your scarf (shawl, or blanket); or chain until your length measures 59 inches. Make sure the number of chains you have can be divided by 4 evenly, then add 2 additional chains.
- Follow the pattern as written.
- Continue crocheting until your project is the width you would like it to be, or until it measures approximately 5 inches width. If you’d like it to be wider, work additional repeat rows (R6 to R9).
- Follow the edging and finishing instructions.
The Winter Frost Scarf is quick, easy to crochet, and looks great! It’s a perfect project to keep you warm or to give as a gift. Don’t forget to come back next week for the matching Winter Frost Hat pattern to complete your set!
