Supplies

  • Yarn: Lion Brand. Jeans. 3.5 oz (100 g) and 246 yds (225 m). 100% Acrylic. Medium Weight Yarn [4]. Machine washable and dryable.
  • Colors: 1 skein in Classic (505-110AF)
  • Crochet Hook: 5.5 mm (I) Streamline Wood in Ebony. I used this hook.
  • Finished Project Yardage: Adult Medium: 1.8 oz (51 g) /125 yds (115 m)
  • Scissors, Tapestry Needle/Yarn Needle, Stitch Marker

Ear Warmers will stretch approximately 2 inches

  • Toddler (1-3 years) wide earwarmer width 3.25 inches X 17 inches length
  • Small Child (age 3-5 years) wide earwarmer width 3.75 inches X 18 inches length
  • Child (age 6-10 years) wide earwarmer width 5 inches X 19 inches length
  • Teen wide earwarmer width 5 inches X 20 inches length
  • Adult Medium wide earwarmer width 5 inches X 21 inches length
  • Adult Large wide earwarmer width 5.5 inches X 22 inches length

Gauge

Approximately 15 rows per 4.75 inches and 14 sts per 4 inches

You can substitute any yarn and hook for this stitch pattern – just remember when you substitute if your gauge is different, the finished size, and amount of yarn used for your project will also be different.

This wide earwarmer is worked flat in rows, before being seamed into it’s final shape.

Toddler (Age 1-3 years) Wide Twist Front Ear Warmer

Using your 5.5 mm (I) hook (or size required for gauge):

R1: RS: Ch 61, sk the first ch, 1 sc in each ch across, ch 1, turn. [60 sc]

R2-R10: *(1 sc and 2 dc) in the first st, sk 2 sts**. Work from * to ** across to the last st. 1 sc in the last st, ch 1, turn. [21 sc, 40 dc]

R11: 1 sc in each st across. Finish off leaving a 10-inch yarn tail. [60 sc]

Proceed to finishing instructions.

Small Child (Age 3-5 years) Wide Twist Front Ear Warmer

Using your 5.5 mm (I) hook (or size required for gauge):

R1: RS: Ch 65, sk the first ch, 1 sc in each ch across, ch 1, turn. [64 sc]

R2-R12: *(1 sc and 2 dc) in the first st, sk 2 sts**. Work from * to ** across to the last st. 1 sc in the last st, ch 1, turn. [22 sc, 42 dc]

R13: 1 sc in each st across. Finish off leaving a 10-inch yarn tail. [64 sc]

Proceed to finishing instructions.

Child (Age 6-10 years) Wide Twist Front Ear Warmer

Using your 5.5 mm (I) hook (or size required for gauge):

R1: RS: Ch 68, sk the first ch, 1 sc in each ch across, ch 1, turn. [67 sc]

R2-R16: *(1 sc and 2 dc) in the first st, sk 2 sts**. Work from * to ** across to the last st. 1 sc in the last st, ch 1, turn. [23 sc, 44 dc]

R17: 1 sc in each st across. Finish off leaving a 10-inch yarn tail. [67 sc]

Teen (Adult Small) Wide Twist Front Ear Warmer

Using your 5.5 mm (I) hook (or size required for gauge):

R1: RS: Ch 71, sk the first ch, 1 sc in each ch across, ch 1, turn. [70 sc]

R2-R16: *(1 sc and 2 dc) in the first st, sk 2 sts**. Work from * to ** across to the last st. 1 sc in the last st, ch 1, turn. [24 sc, 46 dc]

R17: 1 sc in each st across. Finish off leaving a 10-inch yarn tail. [70 sc]

Adult (Medium) Wide Twist Front Ear Warmer

Using your 5.5 mm (I) hook (or size required for gauge):

R1: RS: Ch 74, sk the first ch, 1 sc in each ch across, ch 1, turn. [73 sc]

R2-R16: *(1 sc and 2 dc) in the first st, sk 2 sts**. Work from * to ** across to the last st. 1 sc in the last st, ch 1, turn.  [25 sc, 48 dc]

R17: 1 sc in each st across. Finish off leaving a 10-inch yarn tail. [73 sc]

Adult (Large) Wide Twist Front Ear Warmer

Using your 5.5 mm (I) hook (or size required for gauge):

R1: RS: Ch 77, sk the first ch, 1 sc in each ch across, ch 1, turn. [76 sc]

R2-R18: *(1 sc and 2 dc) in the first st, sk 2 sts**. Work from * to ** across to the last st. 1 sc in the last st, ch 1, turn. [26 sc, 50 dc]

R19: 1 sc in each st across. Finish off leaving a 10-inch yarn tail. [76 sc]

  1. Thread your yarn-end on your yarn needle.
  2. Place your headband on a flat surface with the RS (right-sides) facing up.
  3. Fold the headband in half, bringing the two side edges together.
  4. Fold the side edges (short edges) in half to create little open V shapes that can be layered together. Flatten the layers together.
  5. Grasp all 4 layers firmly with the hand you do not sew with and using your needle, sew through all 4 layers, working all the way across.
  6. After sewing all the way across, weave in your ends securely.

Weave in any remaining ends.
