If you are unable to help personally, please share this with your friends online – you never know – you may reach someone who is able to make a difference locally! Hi everyone! I’m Amy from The Stitchin’ Mommy and I am so glad to be able to share this amazing charity with all of you!

This month’s featured organization is We Care Blankets ™. We Care Blankets ™ was started in 1999 to help children undergoing chemotherapy treatments stay warm with handmade blankets. The people that created this wonderful organization knew that this was a difficult time for the families of these children and wanted to find a way to do something for them. We Care Blankets ™ is a local charity is based out of Long Island, New York but provides blankets to several hospitals across the country.

Mission: That every child who is undergoing cancer treatment will be given a handcrafted blanket.
Donated funds are essential in order to continue the goal of We Care Blankets ™ . Don’t wait…. Knit or Crochet a blanket now. The blanket you make will be a gift of your love and support not only for the child, but for the family as well. We Care Blankets ™ and the hospitals would like to thank you personally. Therefore please include your name and address on each blanket. If you prefer you may remain anonymous.

Every blanket donated is wrapped with care by Anna Kaplan, the wrapping coordinator of We Care Blankets ™, her assistant, Rose Mirabella and the volunteers who give their time on a monthly basis. The beautifully wrapped blankets are then delivered to children receiving cancer treatments in the hospitals that We Care Blankets ™ serve.

How to Donate

We Care Blankets ™ accepts Red Heart Super Saver yarn in addition to hand made blankets (knit or crochet) that are at least 32″ x 32″. They provide patterns on their website but you can feel free to use any pattern you wish!

If you are local (in the Long Island/NYC area), you can also volunteer your time by helping to create blankets with donated yarn or wrap blankets that need to be sent off to the hospitals. You can find more information about volunteering here.

Make sure to follow We Care Blankets ™ on Facebook for more information and for great updates!

If you are looking for a blanket that is great for donating, try my Stashbuster Granny Stripe Afghan! It is a great blanket for donating since you can use stash yarn. Plus, the pattern is super simple!
