The Yarn
For this month’s Washcloth of the Month Club project I used 1 ball of Big Value Recycled Dishcloth Cotton and a 4 mm (G) crochet hook. This yarn was sent to me King Cole Yarn. This yarn is a blend of 85% Cotton and 15% Polyester. Each 100 g ball contains approximately 175 yards (160 meters).
I love using Big Value Recycled Dishcloth Cotton for my washcloths because it is affordable and available in a number of bright colors. There are currently 8 colors available and you can see them all here. For today’s washcloth I used Cranberry (Shade: 5062). I’ve found that this yarn is perfect for crochet dishcloths and washcloths and I love the bright, bold colors it is available in.

Notes:
- Stitch multiple: 3
- When I work into the foundation chain, I prefer working into the back bar (back bump) of the chain. Feel free to work in the back loop instead if you prefer.
- The initial sk 2 chs in R1 count as 1 sk ch and 1 sc. You may want to mark the sc to remind yourself to work into it.
- The initial ch 1 counts as 1 sc. You may want to mark this to remind yourself to work into it.
- After R1 we will only be working in the ch1sp and the very last sc of the row. Sk all other sts unless mentioned.
- To make this washcloth longer, work more rows.
- To make this washcloth wider, chain more stitches using the stitch multiple.
- Photo tutorial for the Wattle Stitch and the Edging follow the written instructions.

How to Crochet the Wattle Stitch with any Yarn and Hook (and to any size)
You can make your project to any size you wish with the stitch multiple. Simply chain any number of chains to the width you want for your project, then make sure you can divide the total number of chains evenly by 3. Follow the instructions below.
Row 1: Ch the number of chains as indicated in the instructions above, sk the first 2 chs (first sk ch counts as a sk ch and the second sk ch counts as 1 sc) and in the next ch work (1 sc, ch 1, 1 dc), sk the next 2 chs. *Work (1 sc, ch 1, 1 dc) in the next ch, sk the next 2 chs**. Work from * to ** across, until 1 ch remains. 1 sc in the last ch. Turn.
Row 2: Ch 1 (counts as 1 sc). Work (1 sc, ch 1, 1 dc) in each ch1sp across to the last sc. The last sc is the ch 1 that is counting as a sc. Work 1 sc in the last sc. Turn.
Repeat Row 2 for the size of the project you want to make. Finish after an odd numbered row. Then add the edging (if you wish).
