Waterfall Crochet

When you purchase through links on my site, I may earn an affiliate commission.
Here’s how it works.

Waterfall Crochet is a great technique that allows you to create projects without juggling with multiple colors for each row, or round. It also creates a fabric that is less bulky than that of traditional mosaic crochet because you are not working over other stitches; you are working over chain spaces.

Waterfall Crochet Granny Squares

Waterfall Crochet Granny Squares is available from Annie’s Craft Store. You can choose from 2 different versions to choose from:  an electronic version or a printed book version. You can also order the yarn to make the afghan easily with the Waterfall Granny Afghan Yarn Kit. You can access the current pricing for each kit in the selection drop-box here.

I previously reviewed the book Learn to Waterfall Crochet from Annie’s last year. The technique uses chain spaces to create a lattice to work over. This provides areas where you can add color-work, without needing to change colors mid-row.

Read my review of Learn to Waterfall Crochet review here.

The Waterfall Crochet Granny Squares are worked in the round. The instructions include 2 different methods for managing your yarn colors at the end of rounds. Either you finish off and weave in your ends, or you can use the “Drop & Carry Yarn” method outlined on page 47 of the book. Photos are provided to illustrate how to use both techniques.

The special stitches used are explained in detail with images and written instructions in the Waterfall Crochet Appendix & Tips section. You will find this information beginning on page 45.

Page 3 to 5 provides an introduction to the methods being used and photos to show you what each stitch looks like when complete.

The first granny square pattern ” Square 1″ begins on page 5.

20 Different Waterfall Crochet Granny Square Designs

Take a closer look at the 20 granny squares you can make here: Waterfall Crochet Granny Squares

The assembly instructions begin on page 41. This book includes fabulous photo tutorials to support the methods that are being used.

The patterns are written in US crochet terms.

The eBook is in full color, with full color images. Bold type and italics are used throughout to emphasize important headings and notes.

The Waterfall Crochet Appendix & Tips is available from page 45 to page 53. It is filled with great photos and details to help you master the stitches and techniques used to Waterfall Crochet.

If you need additional help with basic stitches, you can check out Annie’s Online Stitch Guide. Check out their free online Stitch Guide here.

My favorite designs are: Square 4, Square 9 and Square 13.

  1. I love square 9, but square 1 with those hearts of course would be perfect for a valentines blanket…or mix it up with rainbow colors for a pride balnket.

  2. The Big book of Christmas would be nice to review since it’s just around the corner.

  3. I’d love to see a review of Mandala-Style Throw. I love Mandalas. Thanks for considering this book.

  4. Not sure if this is the right place, but I would love a review of Everything the Internet Didn’t Teach You About Crochet from Annie’s. As a self-taught crocheter, I relied heavily on the internet, mainly YouTube and most of the time I feel I didn’t learn either everything or enough.

  5. Can you review Annie’s “Pedigree”. It’s about crochet dog breeds. Thanks!

  6. Could you please review Annie’s Christmas? I keep looking at it but can’t decide if I need it. Lol

  7. I keep seeing this book come up on my Facebook feed. It is definitely a technique I would be interested in learning. Thanks for the giveaway.
