This week I am sharing a hat pattern to match my Warm Vibes Cowl. This textured hat is available in 2 different sizes, Adult and Child, and it is worked from the top down. Information is provided in the notes section to make a teen size version of the hat too.

Warm Vibes Hat Pattern

Warm Vibes Hat Pattern Rhondda ODC

Supplies

  • Yarn: Red Heart Hopscotch Yarn. 4 oz (113 g) and 210 yds (193 m). 100% Acrylic. Medium Weight Yarn [4]. Machine wash and dry.
  • Colors: 1 skein in Bicycle (E860-7959)
  • Hook: 5.5 mm (I). 
  • Finished Project Yardage: Hat: 4 oz (113 g) / 210 yds (193 m)
  • Scissors, Yarn Needle, Stitch Marker

Difficulty Level

Easy-Intermediate

Finished Size

Adult Hat height approximately 8.5 inches X 22 inches circumference
Child Hat height approximately 7.5 inches X 20 inches circumference

Gauge

Approximately 9 rows per 4 inches and 11 sts per 4 inches

You can substitute any yarn and hook for this stitch pattern – just remember when you substitute if your gauge is different, the finished size, and amount of yarn used for your project will also be different.

Abbreviations

US Terminology used

beg – beginning

beg-bo – beginning bobble

BL – back loop

BLsc – back loop single crochet

bo – 4-dc bobble

ch – chain

dc – double crochet

hdc – half double crochet

R – row or round

rem – remaining

rep – repeat

sc –  single crochet

sk – skip

sl st – slip stitch

st/sts – stitch/stitches

WS –  wrong side (back of project)

yo – yarn over

* to **– Repeat the instructions between the asterisks the number of times indicated. This repeat will contain multiple instructions.

[] – at the end of the row – the total number of stitches

() – important notes AND sets of stitches to be worked within one stitch, or space

Special Stitches

Beginning Bobble (abbreviation: beg-bo)

Long Version: Ch 2, yarn over, insert your hook into the specified stitch, yarn over and pull up 1 loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops (2 loops on hook). Yarn over and insert your hook into the same stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop (4 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through 2 loops on your hook (3 loops on hook). Yarn over and insert your hook into the same stitch, yarn over and pull up 1 loop (5 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through 2 loops (4 loops on hook). Yarn over and insert your hook into the same stitch, yarn over and pull up 1 loop (6 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through 2 loops (5 loops on hook). Yarn over and pull through 5 remaining loops on your hook to complete the stitch.

Short Version: Ch 2, *Yo, insert hook into the specified st, yo and pull up 1 loop, yo and pull through 2 loops on hook**. Rep from * to ** 3 times. Yo and pull through all 5 loops on your hook.

4-dc bobble (abbreviated: bo)

Long Version: Yarn over, insert your hook in the specified stitch, yarn over and pull up 1 loop. Yarn over and pull through 2 loops (2 loops on hook). Yarn over and insert your hook into the same stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop (4 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through 2 loops on your hook (3 loops on hook). Yarn over and insert your hook into the same stitch, yarn over and pull up 1 loop (5 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through 2 loops (4 loops on hook).   • Stitch multiple of 3
  • Initial ch 1 does not count as a stitch
  • Sl st does not count as a stitch
  • Do not sl st to join unless specified
  • To make a teen size or adult small hat, follow the instructions for the Child Size and repeat R8 to R11 three times, then work R18 and R19. The only difference between child and teen is the height of the hat.

This hat is crocheted in joined rounds, from the crown to the brim. 

Using your 5.5 mm (I) hook (or size required for gauge):

R1: DMR: ch 3, 12 dc, sl st to the top of first dc to join. [12]

R2: Ch 3, 2 dc in each st around; sl st to the first dc to join. [24]

R3: Ch 3,*2 dc in the next st, 1 dc in the next st**. Rep from * to ** 12 times.  Sl st to the first dc to join. [36]

R4: Ch 3,*2 dc in the next st, 1 dc in each of the next 2 sts**. Rep from * to ** 12 times. Sl st to the first dc to join. [48]

R5: Ch 3, *2 dc in the next st, 1 dc in each of the next 3 sts**. Rep from * to ** 12 times. Sl st to the first dc to join. [60]

R6: Ch 1, 1 BPdc in the dc (the same st you just sl st in). *1 FPdc in each of the next 2 dc, 1 BPdc in the next dc**. Rep from * to ** around to the last 2 dc. 1 FPdc in each of the last 2 dc. Sl st to the first BPdc to join. [ 40 FPdc, 20 BPdc]

R7: Ch 1, 1 BPdc in the BPdc (the same st you just sl st in). *1 FPdc in each of the next 2 FPdc, 1 BPdc in the next BPdc**. Rep from * to ** around to the last 2 FPdc. 1 FPdc in each of the last 2 FPdc. Sl st to the first BPdc to join. [40 FPdc, 20 BPdc]

R8: Ch 1, 1 BPdc in the BPdc (the same st you just sl st in). *1 FPdc in each of the next 2 FPdc, 1 bo in the next BPdc**. Rep from * to ** around to the last 2 FPdc. 1 FPdc in each of the last 2 FPdc. Sl st to the first BPdc to join. [19 bo, 40 FPdc, 1 BPdc]

R9: Beg-bo in the BPdc (the same st you just sl st in). *1 FPdc in each of the next 2 FPdc, 1 FPdc in the next bo**. Rep from * to ** around to the last 2 FPdc. 1 FPdc in each of the last 2 FPdc. Sl st to the first beg-bo to join. [1 beg-bo, 59 FPdc]

R10: Ch 1, 1 FPdc in the beg-bo (the same st you just sl st in). *1 FPdc in each of the next 2 FPdc, 1 BPdc in the next FPdc**. Rep from * to ** around to the last 2 FPdc. 1 FPdc in each of the last 2 FPdc.  Sl st to the first FPdc to join. [41 FPdc, 19 BPdc]

R11: Ch 1, 1 BPdc in the FPdc (the same st you just sl st in). *1 FPdc in each of the next 2 FPdc, 1 BPdc in the next BPdc**. Rep from * to ** around to the last 2 FPdc. 1 FPdc in each of the last 2 FPdc. Sl st to the first BPdc to join. [40 FPdc, 20 BPdc]

R12-R19: Rep R8-R11

R20: Ch 1, 1 BPdc in the FPdc (the same st you just sl st in), 1 hdc in each rem st around. Sl st to the first BPdc to join. [59 hdc, 1 BPdc]

R21: 1 Ch 1, 1 BPsc in each st around. Finish off with an invisible join and weave in ends. [60 BPsc]

Child Warm Vibes Hat Pattern Instructions
Age 6-10 years;
circumference approximately 20 inches

This hat is crocheted in joined rounds, from the crown to the brim.

R6: Ch 1, 1 BPdc in the dc (the same st you just sl st in). *1 FPdc in each of the next 2 dc, 1 BPdc in the next dc**. Rep from * to ** around to the last 2 dc. 1 FPdc in each of the last 2 dc. Sl st to the first BPdc to join. [ 36 FPdc, 18 BPdc]

R7: Ch 1, 1 BPdc in the BPdc (the same st you just sl st in). *1 FPdc in each of the next 2 FPdc, 1 BPdc in the next BPdc**. Rep from * to ** around to the last 2 FPdc. 1 FPdc in each of the last 2 FPdc. Sl st to the first BPdc to join. [36 FPdc, 18 BPdc]

R8: Ch 1, 1 BPdc in the BPdc (the same st you just sl st in). *1 FPdc in each of the next 2 FPdc, 1 bo in the next BPdc**. Rep from * to ** around to the last 2 FPdc. 1 FPdc in each of the last 2 FPdc. Sl st to the first BPdc to join. [17 bo, 36 FPdc, 1 BPdc]

R9: Beg-bo in the BPdc (the same st you just sl st in). *1 FPdc in each of the next 2 FPdc, 1 FPdc in the next bo**. Rep from * to ** around to the last 2 FPdc. 1 FPdc in each of the last 2 FPdc. Sl st to the first beg-bo to join. [1 beg-bo, 53 FPdc]

R10: Ch 1, 1 FPdc in the beg-bo (the same st you just sl st in). *1 FPdc in each of the next 2 FPdc, 1 BPdc in the next FPdc**. Rep from * to ** around to the last 2 FPdc. 1 FPdc in each of the last 2 FPdc.  Sl st to the first FPdc to join. [37 FPdc, 17 BPdc]

R11: Ch 1, 1 BPdc in the FPdc (the same st you just sl st in). *1 FPdc in each of the next 2 FPdc, 1 BPdc in the next BPdc**. Rep from * to ** around to the last 2 FPdc. 1 FPdc in each of the last 2 FPdc. Sl st to the first BPdc to join. [36 FPdc, 18 BPdc]

R12-R15: Rep R8-R11

R16-R17: Rep R8-R9

R18: Ch 1, 1 FPdc in the beg-bo (the same st you just sl st in), 1 hdc in each rem st around. Sl st to the first BPdc to join. [53 hdc, 1 BPdc]

R19: Ch 1, 1 BPsc in each st around. Finish off with an invisible join and weave in ends. [54 BPsc]
