This week I have chosen another SUPER easy stitch pattern for you worked solely with single crochet stitches. This is the very basic dishcloth pattern. A small change in the order of the stitches worked gives you a lovely look – a bit of texture – and practice working crossed stitches. If you can do this one – you will be able to do the half double and double crochet crossed stitches too!

Crossed Double Crochet Afghan Block (you can make this as a dishcloth too! – I recommend making it with cotton yarn or linen; rather than acrylic)
Supplies
- Yarn: Bernat Handicrafter Cotton (sample uses Hot Pink ). Medium Weight [4] Yarn.
- Hook 5.0 mm (H). 4 inch by 4 inch square uses 5 mm (H) Orange Osage Hook.
- Scissors, Yarn Needle, Stitch Marker (optional)

3.65 sts per inch
3.16 rows per inch
Abbreviations
US Terminology used
ch – chain
R – row/round
RS – right side (aka as the ‘pretty side’ of your work)
rem – remaining
rep – repeat
sc – single crochet
sk – skip
st/sts – stitch/stitches
* – Repeat the instructions between the asterisks the number of times indicated. This repeat will contain of multiple instructions.
() – Repeat the instructions between the parentheses the number of times indicated.
[] – at the end of the row – the total number of stitches

Very Basic Dishcloth Pattern Instructions
Size: 6 inches x 6 inches

R1: Ch 22, 1 sc in the back bar (back bump) of the second ch from hook and in each rem ch across, ch 1, turn [21]
R2: (RS): 1 sc in first sc *sk next sc, 1 sc in next sc; working in front of the last sc made, work 1 sc in the skipped sc**. Rep from * to ** across, ch 1, turn [21]
R3-R18: Rep R2
R19: 1 sc in each st across; finish off and weave in ends. [21]
3 Optional Sizes
Size: 9 inches by 9 inches
R1: Ch 34, 1 sc in the back bar (back bump) of the second ch from hook and in each rem ch across, ch 1, turn [33]
R2: (RS): 1 sc in first sc *sk next sc, 1 sc in next sc; working in front of the last sc made, work 1 sc in the skipped sc**. Rep from * to ** across, ch 1, turn [33]
R3-R18: Rep R2
R19: 1 sc in each st across; finish off and weave in ends. [33]
Size: 12 inches by 12 inches
R1: Ch 44, 1 sc in the back bar (back bump) of the second ch from hook and in each rem ch across, ch 1, turn [43]
R2: (RS): 1 sc in first sc *sk next sc, 1 sc in next sc; working in front of the last sc made, work 1 sc in the skipped sc**. Rep from * to ** across, ch 1, turn [43]
R3-R18: Rep R2
R19: 1 sc in each st across; finish off and weave in ends. [43]
Size: 4 inches by 4 inches
This size only uses a 5 mm (H) Orange Osage Hook
R1: Ch 16, 1 sc in the back bar (back bump) of the second ch from hook and in each rem ch across, ch 1, turn [15]
R2: (RS): 1 sc in first sc *sk next sc, 1 sc in next sc; working in front of the last sc made, work 1 sc in the skipped sc**. Rep from * to ** across, ch 1, turn [15]
R3-R10: Rep R2
R11: 1 sc in each st across; finish off and weave in ends. [15]
OPTIONAL EDGING
Work 1 sc in each st and each row end and in each corner work: 1 sc, ch 1, 1 sc. Finish off with an invisible join and weave in ends.
