It’s time for our February Hat Patterns! If you missed our scarf patterns, which we released last Sunday, please visit last week’s post to get your 3 free scarf patterns.

This week I am sharing a hat pattern to match my Veronica Infinity Scarf and I decided I’d share multiple sizes of the Veronica Hat pattern, in case you have hats you would like to make for other people too.

The Veronica Hat Pattern is available in sizes Baby to Adult and it, like the Infinity Scarf from last week, are crocheted using the Alpine Stitch.

Notes:

  • Multiple of 2
  • Color A: Seaweed, Color B: Sandy Shores
  • I work in the back bar of the foundation chain because I believe it gives the first row more elasticity. You can work into the back loop of the chain if you prefer.

Alpine Stitch Photo Tutorial

After you complete your first round of single crochet stitches, the next round begins like this:

Ch 3 (does not count as a stitch), 1 FPtr around the dc beneath the first sc (the same sc that has the ch 3), sk the sc. 1 dc in the next sc, 1 FPtr around the dc beneath the next sc, sk the sc*.

Step 1 Alpine Stitch Hat
We do not count the chain 3 as a stitch – this means the first stitch of the round will be worked in the same stitch as that chain 3 – or for this pattern, the FPtr will be worked in the stitch that corresponds to that first stitch and we skip the sc behind it.

We repeat those stitches from * to ** around to the last sc of the round.

At the end of the round we work our last double crochet stitch into that last sc and then we begin the next round without slip stitching to join. Simply single crochet into the first FPtr of the round to begin your next round of single crochet stitches.

End of first round for Alpine Stitch Hat
Single crochet round

We work 1 round of single crochet and then we begin our next round like this:

Ch 3 (does not count as a stitch), 1 dc in the first sc (the same sc that has the ch 3), 1 FPtr around the dc beneath the next sc, sk the sc, 1 dc in the next sc*.

Alpine Stitch Hat P2

We repeat this, from * to ** around to the last sc. Then we work 1 FPtr around the dc beneath the last sc, sk the last sc. Do not sl st to join.

Last FPtr first sc of next round

Then we work another round of single crochet and begin the next round, like this, again:
