Supplies
- Yarn: Bernat Handicrafter Cotton (sample uses Poppy) Medium Weight Yarn [4]
- Hook 5.5 mm (I). 5 mm (H) Orange Osage Hook used for the 4 inch by 4 inch square.
- Scissors, Yarn Needle, Stitch Marker (optional)

Abbreviations
US Terminology used
beg – beginning
ch – chain
dc – double crochet
R – row/round
RS – right side (aka as the ‘pretty side’ of your work)
rem – remaining
rep – repeat
sc – single crochet
sk – skip
st/sts – stitch/stitches
* – Repeat the instructions between the asterisks the number of times indicated. This repeat will contain of multiple instructions.
() – Repeat the instructions between the parentheses the number of times indicated.
[] – at the end of the row – the total number of stitches

Pattern Instructions
Up and Down Dishcloth
Size: 6 inches x 6 inches

R1: (RS): Ch 18. Beg in 2nd ch from the hook and work 1 sc in each st across. Ch 1, turn. [17]
R2: *1 sc in the next st, 1 dc in the next st** rep from * to ** across to the last st. 1 sc in the last st. Ch 1, turn. [17]
R3: *1 sc in the sc, 1 dc in the dc** rep from * to ** across; ending with 1 sc in the last sc, ch 1, turn [17]
R4-R17: Rep R3.
The dishcloth measures 6 inches by 6 inches at this point.
Edging
Round 1:
After the final ch 1; turn to work down the side edge. Work 17 sc evenly down the side edge.
Ch 1, turn to work along the bottom edge and work 17 sc evenly across.
Ch 1, turn to work along the side edge and work 17 sc evenly up the side edge.
Ch 1, turn to work along the top edge and work 17 sc evenly across.
Round 2:
Work 1 sc to the 1st ch1sp in the corner and work the rest of the round as follows:
Ch 2, *1 sc, ch 2* in each sc and in each ch1sp around. Finish off with an invisible join and weave in ends.

R1: (RS): Ch 28. Beg in 2nd ch from the hook and work 1 sc in each st across. Ch 1, turn. [27]
R2: *1 sc in the next st, 1 dc in the next st** rep from * to ** across to the last st. 1 sc in the last st. Ch 1, turn. [27]
R3: *1 sc in the sc, 1 dc in the dc** rep from * to ** across; ending with 1 sc in the last sc, ch 1, turn [27]
R4-R25: Rep R3.
Finish off with an invisible join and weave in ends.
Size: 12 Inches by 12 Inches
R1: (RS): Ch 38. Beg in 2nd ch from the hook and work 1 sc in each st across. Ch 1, turn. [37]

Finish off with an invisible join and weave in ends.

This size only uses: 5 mm (H) Orange Osage Hook
R1: (RS): Ch 12. Beg in 2nd ch from the hook and work 1 sc in each st across. Ch 1, turn. [11]
R2: *1 sc in the next st, 1 dc in the next st** rep from * to ** across to the last st. 1 sc in the last st. Ch 1, turn. [11]
R3: *1 sc in the sc, 1 dc in the dc** rep from * to ** across; ending with 1 sc in the last sc, ch 1, turn [11]
R4-R10: Rep R3.
Finish off with an invisible join and weave in ends.
Alternate Edging
Work 1 sc in each st and each row end and in each corner work: 1 sc, ch 1, 1 sc. Finish off with an invisible join and weave in ends.
