Hi Leslie, I believe that the voor is “in front of” and “achter” is back (behind). Hope this helps! Rhondda

I have a Dutch blanket pattern that uses Reliefstokje but I can’t tell if it’s back or front post…Directions say:

    And then later:

1 Reliefstokje rond volgende vaste, 1 Reliefstokje rond overgeslagen vaste waarbij je ACHTER het vorige Reliefstokje haakt , 2 x 1 Reliefstokje rond volgende vast, 1 Reliefstokje rond volgende vaste, 1 Reliefstokje rond overgeslagen vaste waarbijje VOOR het vorige Reliefstokje haakt, 1 vaste in volgende 5 vaste 4 x 1 Reliefstokje rond volgende vaste….

Any help here would be appreciated!

Hi Sharon, v means vaste – which means single crochet. I’ve tried to fix the chart so the terms are lining up now. Hopefully this helps! All the best, Rhondda

Even after translating there is a v after the number in pattern I downloaded. Does this stand for stitch?

not sure why that is all in caps! wasn’t meant to be 🙂

    Hi Karen,

Vaste / vasten (v) = single crochet (sc)

I’m not certain what verm is referring to – is that what it says in the Dutch copy? or in the incorrectly translated copy?

The 2 v in each sc I believe means work 2 sc in each sc.

Sorry I can’t help with the verm. I’d double check the original pattern to see if the original value is v for sc and then a second shortform which Google Translate incorrectly translated into a combined verm.

    All the best,
    Rhondda

I have a pattern that has been “translated” from Dutch to English. It didn’t translate it all. I thought that “v” was single croche but, the pattern says,”(2v in each sc) ? also what is “verm” as in, (6v+1 verm) Thank You, Karen

    Hi again!

I saw this pattern but it looks similar to Dutch. What is the American equivalent to the size hook that is used in the pattern?

    Thank you.

Jeg faldt lige over denne lille skønne dukke.

Hi Nadira, I see no mention of the yarn she used – I do believe DK weight yarns are more readily available for use in the Netherlands – but I am not sure 🙁 Maybe try sending the designer a message? You could ask her this:

this is what it says in English:

Can you please tell me what kind of yarn you used to make these hats? Thank you!

    Good luck,
    Rhondda

    Hi,

Does the pattern mention what type of yarn to use? I’m using an organic cotton 4 WORSTED WEIGHT.

Hi Nadira, It looks like she used a hook size change to resize the pattern to fit a child. She follows the adult pattern until round 17 then she crocheted 14 rounds (even – so without any increases). Then she increased again, (2 sc in the first st, 1 sc in the next st) around, and then crocheted 9 more rounds even.

    Does this help?
    Rhondda

This is the whole pattern: http://zomaarvoor.blogspot.com/2013/10/zonnehoeden.html?showComment=1404748212943#c9165333596680649699

The adult size hat uses a 4 hook. I’m wondering do I use a 4 hook and then after row 17 use a 3?

    Thank you so much,
    Nadira

Work 14 rows 90 single crochet
(vasten and vaste means single crochet)

Increase for the flap, (2 single crochet in the 1st stitch, 1 single crochet in the next stitch) repeat around

Increase (2 single crochet in the 1st stitch, 1 single crochet in the next stitch) repeat around

Work 9 rows (I’m not sure if this means to work the same increase 9 rows or work even for 9 rows – you should be able to tell from the pattern by looking to see if this section looks like it increases in size or if it stays the same).

Hope this helps – I don’t speak Dutch myself but I think this is what it means.

Yes I believe the hook used is a 3.00 mm hook 🙂

    Have a great day,
    Rhondda

I want to do this hat, but the pattern is in Dutch. I’m not sure if the translator translated correctly. Also, is the hook size in mm?

It’s the same pattern as described above to row 17 but then hook 3:00

    Work 14 rows 90 fasting
    – Inc for flap 2 sc in 1st, solid 1 sc in the next regular repeat around.
    – Inc 2 sc in 1st permanent fixed one in the following fixed repeat around.
    Work 9 rows all around.
