Review Product ReceivedRed Heart generously provided me free samples of this great yarn to try and as a result you have a 2 new Free Crochet Patterns!  Thank you Red Heart! Please see my Crochet Yarn Review HERE.

I loved designing this shawl and watching the yarn do all the work by making these fun color changes! I only had a couple yarn ends to weave in which made it even better! I used a total of 600 yds (546 m) of Red Heart Super Saver Stripes Yarn to make this wrap. I had just enough leftover yarn to design and crochet the Double Crossed Hat pattern in a child size. You can get the free hat pattern here: Double Crossed Hat

The Tropical Breeze Wrap is lightweight and perfect for cool evenings in the summertime! You can substitute any Red Heart Super Saver Yarn (Regular, Stripes or Ombre) to crochet this project. The Tropical Breeze Wrap would also make a great stashbuster project. The wrap is crocheted in rows, all in one piece, from the top down. The finished dimensions are 57 inches wide by 20.5 inches tall. The Stitch Multiple for the basic wrap itself is chain a multiple of 4 + 1 and when you begin working back along the starting chain you need to add one more ch 1 (which counts as your first sc of the row). The Stitch Multiple for the edging is a multiple of 6 + 1 for this specific wrap. I did block this wrap using my blocking mats from Knit Picks and my blocking pins. I pinned the project to shape and spritzed it with tap water (lightly – just a tiny bit!) and then I let it air dry for a few hours.

Notes

  • since many of the chain stitches COUNT as stitches I will be including the instructions at the beginning of the row for which they COUNT as stitches; rather than at the end of the previous row after the instruction to turn.
  • Ch 1 at the beg of a row counts as 1 sc (this means you will be working a stitch into the ch1sp on the next row – this technique will give you a streamlined edge)
  • Ch 4 at the beg of a row counts as 1 dc and one ch 1
  • Ch 3 (Edging Section) at the beg of a row counts as 1 sc and ch 2
  • RS – your yarn end from your initial chain row will be on your left hand side if you are right-handed

  1. Hi Rebecca, Thank you 🙂 It used 600 yds (546 m) of Red Heart Super Saver Stripes Yarn – so about 2.5 balls of the yarn. Have fun making yours! Rhondda

  2. How many skeins of Retro Stripe, or any Red Heart Super Saver Stripe Yarn does this take? Thanks so much. It’s beautiful!!! <3 <3

  3. Hi Katherine, I promise it is there 🙂 They’ve combined the Stripes into the regular Red Heart Super Saver Colors now. You will find it listed as: Retro Stripe – E300_4971 – $4.49 and it is located on this page (they should be in alphabetical order in the drop down scroll box): https://www.amazon.ca/Coats-Heart-E300-0319-Economy-Cherry/dp/B0017342OY?gclid=CjwKCAiAvaGRBhBlEiwAiY-yMNyrOXsH7HrO6lusDjaD3jKCgWeowDLzhrUiQgqnc7alSawQ0BG1OhoCyKEQAvD_BwE&hvadid=389152405336&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9104080&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=11956193280830306320&hvtargid=kwd-314755005740&hydadcr=26081_9772488&keywords=red%2Bheart%2Bsuper%2Bsaver%2Bred&qid=1646891107&sr=8-3&th=1&linkCode=ll1&tag=oombadesig-20&linkId=c53aa81db000468f20b45e29e5795631&language=en_CA&ref_=as_li_ss_tl I’m happy you like the design 🙂 The yarn made it super fun to crochet. Have a lovely week, Rhondda

  4. Hi Rhondda,
Love the pattern but I’m rather confused about the yarn — I tried to find a yarn called “Super Savers stripes (Retro Stripe) but have come up empty. Evene the Red Heart website doesn’t have any such designation. Am I looking for the wrong yarn or has Red Heart not come out with a new yarn yet?

    Thanks!
    Katherine

  8. I am in the process of crocheting this beautiful shawl using the Red Heart with Love Stripes in Candy Stripe. I am on Row 18 and it is not nearly as wide as yours, although I am using a J-6mm hook. When counting Rows 4-21, should I be counting & crocheting one each of Rows 2 & 3 for EACH of those rows? Hope my questions makes sense. Thank you!
