Tribal Traditions Poncho and Afghan Crochet Pattern
This month, Carol Hegar from Shady Lane Original Crochet Designs has given us a copy of her Tribal Traditions Poncho and Afghan Crochet ePattern to review and a second copy to giveaway to one of my readers!
This 10-page ePattern is written in U.S. Crochet Terms. Assembly diagrams and stitch graphs are included for the projects.
You will find the full abbreviations list, important pattern notes and directions for working dc stitches in a stitch 2 rounds (rows) below on page 2.
You will need to be able to recognize the front loop and back loop of a stitch to be able to crochet these projects. A diagram illustrating this is included on page 2.
For the most part, both patterns use simple crochet stitches like single crochet (sc) and double crochet (dc). One special stitch is used for these patterns: a single crochet bobble stitch (SB). The instructions on how to crochet a single crochet bobble stitch are included at the beginning of each pattern in the “Special Stitches” sections.
The dropped double crochet technique is super easy-to-do and used for the both the crochet poncho and the afghan patterns. To learn how to do the easy dropped dc method, Carol has prepared a helpful video tutorial here.

Create these traditional Native American inspired themes using just single and double crochet sts. The design is formed by a dc in front loop of st 2 rows below. Sc are worked in back lp of st. Each row is worked on one side and all color changes are made at the beginning of the row. Crochet pattern includes instructions for a one-size fits most woman’s poncho plus a matching afghan. We used a cotton worsted weight yarn, but you may easily substitute acrylic if desired.
Instructions for poncho and matching afghan include a written pattern, plus there is an optional graph if you prefer to work from that.
Visit our website home page for a video how-to tutorial showing how the sc in back lp and dc in front lp of next st 2 rows below is worked….it’s very easy to do.
