Free Pattern | Tile Green Valley Hat

When I got an order by my family friend for her 4 year old, I thought I would make something new or combined for her with my favorite color yarn and since they also wanted something made in Green shade. The result was perfect and she absolutely loved it. So I got a free pattern from this and a cute little smile on her face.

This simple hat makes a great winter accessory for your kid. You can make this in a couple of hours in your kid’s favorite color to match his/her clothing.

This hat basically uses Half double crochet and ‘V’ stitch.

Materials:

  • 25% Wool, 75% Premium Acrylic Yarn – {I used Nako Sport Wool in Tile Green and White}
  • 6.5 mm crochet hook (Yarn recommends 7 mm hook)
  • Tapestry Needle to weave in the ends
  • Scissors

Abbreviations:

ch – chain

ss – slip stich

sc – single crochet

hdc – half double crochet

Gauge: [HDC – 6 stitches and 4 rows = 2” x 2”]

Finished Size: To fit kid of 3-10 years with head circumference 19” – 20.5”

Notes:

  • For Rounds 1 – 12: Ch 2 in the beginning of the rounds doesn’t count as a stitch.
  • For Rounds 13 – 18: Ch 2 in the beginning of the rounds counts as one HDC.

Pattern:

(1 HDC, Ch 1 and 1 HDC) in same stitch forms one ‘V’ stitch.

Round 13: Ch 2. (Counts as the first HDC). Ch 1 and 1 HDC in the same stitch. Skip next two stitches, Make ‘V’ stitch in the next. *(Skip 2 stitches and make ‘V’ stitch in the next)* Repeat from *to* till the end. After making the final ‘V’ stitch, skip two stitches and SS with the top of the first Ch 2 (1st HDC) made. SS to the ch 2 space.

{with White, Tile green and white yarn}

Rounds 14-16: Repeat Round 13 {with alternative colors respectively}.

Round 17: Ch 1. 1 SC in the two HDCs of the previous round that form the ‘V’ and 1 SC in between two ‘V’ stitches. Continue around. SS with the first SC made. [48]

Round 18: Ch 1. 1 SC in the same stitch, 1 SC in each stitch around. SS with the first SC made. [48]

Fasten off and weave in the ends.

You can try these in bright/Neutral colors for your son/daughter. To make this hat bigger you simply have to continue after Round 7 to make a larger round for the crown in multiples of 8 till you get the desired size and then continue HDC in each stitch around and modify the following rounds accordingly.
