My son Andrew loves this book. Drew is 7 years old now and he has always loved learning about new things. Textbook style books can be a bit boring though so he often wants to only read a page or two before switching to something else. With The STEAM Team, Simple Science Explained he is entertained by the little STEAM Team Characters and wants to explore each page in detail. He has come back to this book, time and time again, over the last 30-days.
The STEAM Team, Simple Science Explained is educational but in a very fun way. The illustrations are bright and colorful and the explanations are straightforward and easy for him to understand. He is much more engaged with this book because each little character has something to tell us about the topic. It isn’t just one narrator presenting all of the information in a factual way. He wants to find out what each STEAM character has to say about each topic.
Each topic includes quick facts and small sections of information. The STEAM Team isn’t overwhelming him with too much information all-at-once. Instead, they are giving him enough information to interest him and to lead him to ask questions on the subjects throughout the day (when the book is no where in sight!).
The STEAM Team is very age-appropriate, with both the illustrations and the topics it covers. It doesn’t overwhelm young readers but guides them toward the topics they will be learning more about in school. It is also very helpful to me as a parent to be able to understand what types of subjects are important in today’s educational system. It lets me be more engaged with my children’s learning.
