Solid Granny Square Crochet Pattern
Supplies
- Yarn: Yarnspirations. Red Heart Super Saver. 198 g (7 oz) and 364 yds (333 m). 100% acrylic. Medium Weight Yarn [4]. Machine washable and dryable.
- Yarn Color: White (0311)
- Crochet Hook: 5.0 mm (H)
- Finished Project Yardage: 4 inch square: 5 g (0.18 oz) and 9.2 yds (8.4 m)
- Scissors, Yarn Needle, Stitch Marker
Difficulty Level
- EASY
Finished Size
- Approximately 4 inches width X 4 inches length.
Gauge
- Approximately 7 sts in 2 inches and first 2 rounds approximately 2 inches diameter.
You can substitute any yarn and hook for this stitch pattern – just remember when you substitute if your gauge is different, the finished size, and amount of yarn used for your project will also be different.

- ch2sp – chain 2 space
- dc – double crochet
- DMR – double magic ring
- oz – ounces
- rem – remaining
- Rnd – round
- sk – skip
- sl st – slip stitch
- st/sts – stitch/stitches
- yds – yards
- * to **– Repeat the instructions between the asterisks the number of times indicated. This repeat will contain multiple instructions.
- [] – at the end of the row – the total number of stitches
- () – important notes AND sets of stitches to be worked within one stitch, or space

Notes
- This project is worked in joined rounds.
- Do not make your slip stitches tightly. You will be working into them.
- The first sl st to join is made in the dc following the initial ch 3 from the round.
- Ch-3 at the beginning of the round counts as 1 dc.
- This pattern can be continued indefinitely to make as large a square as you’d like, or even a blanket!

How to Crochet a Perfect Solid Granny Square
This solid granny square is worked in joined rounds, from the center out.
Using your 5 mm (H) hook (or size required for gauge):
Rnd 1: In a DMR: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 2 dc, ch 2. *3 dc, ch 2, into the DMR**. Work from * to ** 3 times. Sl st into the dc following the ch 3 and sl st into the next dc. Sl st into the ch2sp. [12 dc, 4 ch2sp]
Rnd 2: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), (1 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in the ch2sp. *1 dc in each of the next 3 sts, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in the ch2sp**. Work from * to ** 3 times. 1 dc in the sl st covering each of the next 3 sts. Sl st to the dc following the initial ch 3 and into the ch2sp. [28 dc, 4 ch2sp]
Rnd 3: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), (1 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in the ch2sp. *1 dc in each of the next 7 sts. (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in the ch2sp**. Work from * to ** 3 times. 1 dc in each of the next 5 sts. 1 dc in the sl st covering each of the next 2 sts. Sl st to the dc following the initial ch 3 and into the ch2sp. [44 dc, 4 ch2sp]
Proceed to finishing instructions.
Finishing instructions
- Gently block if desired.
- Weave in all ends.

Common Mistakes When Crocheting Granny Squares
- Missing the double crochet stitch immediately after a corner chain 2 (or 3) space.
- Forgetting to work into the top of the initial chain 3.
- Not remembering to count your stitches.
- Measuring the finished square diagonally (they are measured horizontally and vertically through the center).
