Taos Poncho and Afghan Pattern Set

This month, Carol Hegar from Shady Lane Original Crochet Designs has given me a copy of her Taos Poncho and Afghan crochet pattern set to review and a second copy to giveaway to one of my readers!

This 11-page ePattern is written in U.S. Crochet Terms. Graphs are also provided for each of the designs.

This pattern uses only simple crochet stitches. The stitches used are single crochet (sc) and double crochet (dc). You will also need to be able to recognize the front and back loops of a stitch.

The dropped double crochet technique is super easy-to-do and Carol has prepared a helpful video tutorial here, to demonstrate it.

You will find the full abbreviations list, important pattern notes and a diagram to illustrate hook placement for working dc stitches in a stitch 2 rows below, on page 2.

The Poncho Assembly diagrams are included on pages 6 and 7. The graphs are included on pages 9 and 10.

Taos Afghan Crochet Pattern

Dear Crochet Friend,

Popular southwestern themes highlight this textured poncho and afghan using just single and double crochet stitches.

See our instructional how to video to see just how easy the dropped dc (which forms the design) is to do. All color changes are made at the beginning of rows.

Visit our website home page for the video how-to tutorial.

The pattern includes crochet instructions for a one-size fits most poncho plus a bonus matching afghan. We used cotton worsted weight yarn, but you may substitute acrylic if desired. Easy to intermediate skill.

My favorite pattern from Shady Lanes changes from time to time. Today I think it’s her Diamond Duchess Afghan #409 pattern. I like the taupe color she shows.

I absolutely love the Romantic Rose, #588. It reminds me of my mother. I would make it in yellow as she loved yellow roses.
