The Suzette Crochet Hat Pattern is available in sizes baby to adult. It features the beginner friendly Suzette Stitch (aka thicket stitch).

The Suzette Stitch is also known as the Thicket Stitch. It is a lovely beginner friendly crochet stitch that is created by making single crochet (sc) and double crochet (dc) stitches in a specific stitch for every round.

The finished fabric is perfect for projects like blankets, scarves and hats because there are no big gaps between the stitches. This stitches also looks fabulous when crocheted in a single color of yarn; the beautiful texture created by the stitches shines through.

This hat is crocheted with Medium Weight Yarn [4] and a 5.5 mm (I) hook. The Suzette Crochet Hat Pattern works up quickly and is available for free in my post below in sizes Preemie to Adult Large.

Notes:

  • Stitch multiple: 2 (Understanding Stitch Multiples)
  • Crochet stitch pattern : Thicket Stitch Pattern aka Suzette Stitch
  • The initial ch-3 does not count as stitch.
  • The sl st does not count as a stitch
  • Make your sl st tightly
  • You may customize the hat height by working the repeat as many, or as few, times as you wish. Every 3 rounds you add with the stitch pattern, will add approximately 1-inch of height to the hat.
  • If you would like to add a little bit more height to the hat, work an additional round (or two) of sc in the back loop only.
  • I use an invisible join to finish off my final round of stitches, you may substitute a sl st to join if you prefer.

  1. Rhondda,
Thank you so much for the reply! I will certainly work on this! A Tutorial will be great!

  2. Hi Patty, yes you can definitely add a ribbed brim to the hat if you want to. I don’t have a tutorial to do that yet on my site but I can add one. There are a couple different ways to do that. You can simple crochet the brim in rows and then hand sew it to the hat. Or, you can finish the hat but do not finish off and then chain the approximate number of chains for the brim you want to fold up (so 10ish?), then work back across the chain in the back loop only until you get back to the hat. Slip stitch into the next stitch of the hat, ch 1, and work back across the ‘brim’ section in the back loop only across to the last st. Work under both loops of the last stitch. Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in back loop of each st across to the hat, sl st into the next st of the hat…and repeat all the way around the hat before seaming the 2 ends of the brim together using a whip stitch seam. I hope this helps and isn’t too confusing without a tutorial to look at. I will see about adding one soon. Best wishes, Rhondda

  3. Yes, that is what I mean. Not sure if my other reply posted.
    Thank you.

  4. Rhondda,
Yes, add a ribbed hat brim to a top down hat so you can fold it upwards?
    Thank you.

  5. Wondering if you could instruct on how to add a folded brim to your Suzette crochet hat?
