Hi Crocheters! Today I am releasing a stashbuster crochet ear warmer pattern that you can make with Medium Weight Yarn [4] and a 6 mm (J) crochet hook. The Susie Ear Warmer Headband is a free crochet pattern and includes sizes Preemie to Adult.

The Susie Ear Warmer can be seamed with a twist-front (also known as a twisted earwarmer), or seamed flat like a traditional earwarmer. Instructions (including tutorials) are provided in the Finishing Instructions at the end of the post.

For my project I used some of my leftover yarn. Red Heart Hopscotch Yarn was one of my favorite yarns to work with; it was soft and plump (squishy to touch) and it was available in such pretty colors. I wish I had more in my stash but this is the very last of it. It has been discontinued.

If you don’t have this yarn in your yarn stash, don’t worry! Some substitutions that will work in a pinch are Red Heart with Love, Red Heart Roll With It, Caron One Pound, Caron Jumbo and Bernat Pop!. Or, if you really want to try this scrumptious yarn, you can check out the Ravelry Stashes here (243 people have stashed some away and some are willing to trade or sell it!) to use Hopscotch yarn for this project.

Supplies

Yarn: Yarnspirations. Red Heart Hopscotch Yarn. 4 oz (113 g) and 210 yds (193 m). 100% Acrylic. Medium Weight Yarn [4]. Machine Wash and Dry.
Colors: 1 skein in Kickball
Crochet Hook: 6 mm (J) Furls Streamline Wood (Ebony).
Finished Project Yardage: Adult Small (Teen) Ear Warmer Headband: 1.34 oz (38 g) / 70.6 yds (64.9 m)
Scissors, Tapestry Needle (yarn needle), Stitch Marker

Yarn Subs: Red Heart with Love, Red Heart Roll With It, Caron One Pound, Caron Jumbo and Bernat Pop!.

You can substitute any yarn and hook for this stitch pattern – just remember when you substitute if your gauge is different, the finished size, and amount of yarn used for your project will also be different.

Multiple of 2 (Understanding Stitch Multiples)
When I work into the foundation chain, I prefer working into the back bar (back bump) of the chain. You can work under the back loop only if you prefer.
You may customize the headband height by working the repeat of R2 as many, or as few, times as you wish.

The Susie Ear Warmer Headband is crocheted widthwise in rows before being seamed into its final shape.

Using your 6 mm (J) hook (or size required for gauge):

Preemie

Finished Susie Ear Warmer size: 10″ circumference, 1.6” height. To fit 12″ head size.

R1: Ch 26, sk the first ch,*1 sc and 1 dc in the next ch, sk 1 ch**. Rep from * to ** across to the last ch of the row. 1 sc in the last ch. Ch 1, turn. [13 sc, 12 dc]

R2-R4: 1 sc and 1 dc in the first sc. *Sk the next dc, 1 sc and 1 dc in the next sc**. Rep from * to ** across to the last sc of the row. 1 sc in the last sc. Ch 1, turn. [13 sc, 12 dc]
