Ch 3. Beg in the 2nd ch from the hook and work 1 sl st in the next 2 chs. Work 1 sl st in each row end up the other side of the ghost until you are directly across from the other arm of the ghost. Work 1 dc, (1 dc, ch 3 and 1 sl st in the next row end). 1 sl st in each rem row end and across the top of R11. Finish off with an invisible join and weave in ends.
Embellish face with yarn, thread, or cut out pieces of felt.
Cat Head
R1: MR – work 8 hdc [8]
R2: 2 hdc in each st around [16]
R3: Ch 3, working back along the ch: sk 1 ch and work 1 sc in the next ch, 1 hdc in the next ch. Now working back around the head of the cat: Sk 1 hdc, work 1 sl st in each of the next 3 hdc. Ch 3, working back along the ch: sk 1 ch and work 1 sc in the next ch, 1 hdc in the next ch. Now working back around the head of the cat: Sk 1 hdc, work 1 sl st in each of the next 3 hdc. Work 1 sl st in each hdc around. Finish off with an invisible join and weave in ends.
Embellish face with yarn, thread, or cut out pieces of felt.
Spider
R1: MR – work 8 hdc [8]
R2: 2 hdc in each st around [16]
R3: We are now working on the legs of the spider. *1 sl st in the next st, ch 8. Now working back along the ch 8: sk 1 ch, work 1 sl st in each of the next 7 chs back to the base. 1 sl st in the base (where you already have 1 sl st).** Rep from * to ** 3 more times. Finish off with an invisible join and weave in ends.
Now TURN the spider over. We do this so the legs are all worked in the same direction. Join the yarn with a sl st to the 5th st over from the first spider leg – you will be working as a ‘mirror image’ on the other side.
*1 sl st in the next st, ch 8. Now working back along the ch 8: sk 1 ch, work 1 sl st in each of the next 7 chs back to the base. 1 sl st in the base (where you already have 1 sl st).** Rep from * to ** 3 more times. Ch 1 and turn the spider back over to the RS of the spider.
Now work 1 sl st in each st or st space around. Finish off with an invisible join and weave in ends. I added super small safety eyes but you could use scrapbooking/paper crafting brads or beads…
Pumpkin – Jack-o’-lantern
R1: MR – work 8 hdc [8]
R2: 2 hdc in each st around [16]
R3: (1 hdc in the next st, 2 hdc in the next st) 8 times; finish off with an invisible join and weave in ends. [24]
Attach black yarn to the invisible join stitch with 1 sl st, ch 4. Working back along the ch 4: sk 1 ch, work 1 hdc in each of the next 3 ch. Sl st to the same st where you joined the black yarn on the pumpkin. Finish off and weave in ends. Embellish face with embroidery thread, cut out shapes in felt, fabric markers – or let your children add their own embellishments!
These are super quick to make and great for so many purposes. You can even pop a safety pin on the back for a super quick pin for your little one’s jacket!
Hi Camie! Thank you for sharing this with me 🙂 It makes me happy when people can use the patterns I create and make gifts for others! Have a lovely weekend and Happy Halloween! xo Rhondda
i made these for coworkers in my department when i worked at amazon–i hot glued little pin backs to them and used fabric paint for the face features—i havent worked with these people for 2 yrs but a friend still does and she told me yeserday that a lot of the people in my old dept were already wearing the pins i made them this year–even my old supervisor had the spider one i gave him on–thank you for helping me create a memory with these folks:)
Hi Tara, You could try using Bulky Yarn or doubling up your medium weight yarn 🙂
Great patterns! So so cute. I would like to make the cat head, but in a larger size, measuring about 3-4 inches. Any suggestions for the increase? Thanks.
