The Sunday Granny Square is a 6 inch granny square that is crocheted with Aran Weight / Medium Weight Yarn [4] and a 6 mm (J) crochet hook.

To make this flat 6 inch granny square you will need 3 colors of yarn. I chose more subtle and calm tones for my square but this would look brilliant in bright and vibrant colors too.

Disclaimer: The yarn used for this project was given to me by King Cole Yarns. If you’d like to try their yarns you can find your local King Cole Yarn Stockist here. Find all my free crochet patterns designed using King Cole Yarn here.

King Cole yarn is available from your local yarn shop, or online at the links in my post below.

The Yarn I Used for my Granny Square

For more project, I chose King Cole Big Value Aran yarn in Sage, Honeysuckle and Starling.

Big Value Aran is an 100% Premium Acrylic, Aran Weight Yarn [4]. This yarn is machine washable and dryable; making it a great choice for blankets and wearables. It has a fun tweedy fleck throughout that can be used to tie it with other colors in your square.

I chose my 3 colors to take advantage of this fleck (Sage has a fleck of yellow Honeysuckle in it), and Honeysuckle has a fleck that matches the fleck in Starling. There are 20 colors available in this yarn line. See all the colors here.

The yarn is very durable and will make a lovely finished blanket.

Notes:

  • Add the Sunday Granny Square pattern to your Ravelry Library here.
  • Pattern is written with a ch 2 to begin. I prefer to use a double magic ring to begin, as it is more secure. Either is acceptable for this pattern.
  • TIP: If you are using a ch 2 to begin, leave about a 4-inch yarn tail at the beginning. You will use this yarn tail to close the hole that will be there from using this method to start.
  • Pattern is written with a sl st join at the end of each round. You may use an invisible join instead if you prefer. Either is acceptable for this pattern, when instructed to finish off, up to the last round. Use an invisible join on the last round.
  • Pattern does not have a turning chain for each round with a color change because I usually start each new color change round with a standing st. If you prefer a sl st join and a turning chain, feel free to substitute.
  • Sl st is not counted as stitch.
