I sat down to make myself a pair of slippers and instead I ended up making these little stash baskets. My crochet hooks, ruler and scissors were scattered across the little table I use when I crochet sitting on the couch and it was driving me nuts. So I guess this means I needed to make little baskets for myself more than I needed another pair of slippers!
I finished my first basket and then started on my second basket while watching Drew play Mario on the Nintendo Switch. If I can’t find a use for the second basket myself, I remember seeing a pile of markers sitting on the kid’s craft table that need a new home 😉
I like them so much I decided to make a yarn basket to match and the free pattern for the Yarn Stash Basket is available right here: Yarn Stash Basket Free Pattern
Make this easy-to-crochet stash basket for small items like crochet hooks, pencils or pens. A great project to use up your extra yarn as you use 2-strands of medium weight held together.

- Hook: 6 mm (J) Clover Amour Crochet hook
- Finished Project Yardage: 123 yds / 112 m

4.5 inches tall by 4.5 inches wide

4 stitch sets (baby bean and ch 1) in 3 inches

Notes
- This project is worked with 2-strands of yarn held together. You may also choose to substitute a bulky weight yarn instead of the 2-strands of medium weight yarn.
- This project is worked in continuous rounds until Row 7 and then it is worked in joined rows. I recommend you use a stitch marker to mark your place. We do not chain additional stitches or slip stitch to join at the end of the round unless it is specifically written.
- A photo tutorial is included at the end of the post.

I’m so happy to hear this! Thank you for leaving me a message 🙂 Have a lovely week, Rhondda
Thank you! This is the first pattern that I’ve seen with clear instructions AND terrific photo examples…it looks great and makes me want to get going. Hopefully I’ll be reporting back soon with some success story!!
Hi Heather, The photo tutorial is at the very end of the post 🙂 If you scroll down past the written instructions I’ve included it at the bottom. Hope this helps! Rhondda
Where is the tutorial for the baby bean stitch? Sorry, I can’t find it and learn better by seeing, rather than trying to figure out the written instructions!
This is a cute stitch for a cute project!
Very welcome Alyce 🙂
Baskets are the ultimate for organization. Thanks for the pattern 😀
I love crochet baskets – I find I always use them whenever I make them!
Hi Teri 🙂 Do you mean those Duncan Hines kinds? They may even pop right inside these so don’t toss them yet! 😉 I have tin can covered one from a couple years ago too lol – whatever works right? I’m happy you like them. I really love the stitch too 🙂 Have a lovely day, Rhondda
OMGosh! I should’ve known if I was looking for something to come to YOU first! I love this basket. I’m ashamed to say that the pens, hooks, and several other items are sitting in my desk (a very expensive, hand crafted desk) in empty cake-icing cans… 😳
I’ll definitely be making these as replacements! My daughters will love them too. They’re big on baskets. THANK YOU! ♥️
Hi, fab pattern, thank you. I NEED these in my c!uttered life 😀
