Springtime Earwarmer
This earwarmer was created to go with the Springtime Wrist Warmers.
With the warmer weather coming (we hope!) I wanted Darla to still have the option of keeping her little ears warm at recess – without wearing her winter hat. This is a very simple pattern. Comfortable and easy to wear!
Yarn: Worsted Weight – I used Craft Smart Yarn – Orchard Mist
Hook: 5.00 mm (H)
Abbreviations: fsc – foundationless single crochet, fhdc – foundationless half double crochet, ch – chain, sl st – slip stitch, sc – single crochet, ehdc – extended half double crochet (you can substitute double crochet for this stitch if you wish)
Special Stitches: Extended Half Double Crochet (ehdc) – Yarn over the hook, insert the hook into the next st, yarn over and pull up 1 loop (3 loops are on the hook). Yarn over and pull through 1 loop (3 loops on the hook). Yarn over and pull through the remaining 3 loops on the hook.
Finished size is approximately 18″ and it will stretch to fit 20-21″
NOTE: ch2 does not count as a stitch unless specifically indicated
Round 1: 54 fhdc, sl st to join in the first st of the round [54]
Round 2: ch 2, 1 ehdc in each st around (including the one you just sl st to!), sl st to the 1st ehdc to join [54]
Round 3: 1 sc in each of the first 10 sts, 1 ehdc in each of the next 34 sts, 1 sc in each of the last 10 sts (*no need to join – from now on you will continue working in continuous rounds*) [54]
Round 4-8: repeat Round 3 [54]
Round 9: sl st in each st around (this is a decorative slip stitch edge so do this loosely!), finish off and weave in ends [54]
You can easily adjust the pattern for larger or smaller sizes by adding (or leaving out) a few of the initial fhdc from Round 1. Each inch equals approximately 3 stitches. So for an adult woman size head band you will most likely want to add 3 or 4 stitches. Remember the headband will stretch 2-3 inches in size.
Flower Pattern
Round 1: 5 fsc, sl st to 1st fsc to join to form a loop
Round 2: Beginning in the first fsc from Round 1, chain 2 and crochet 7 fhdc stitches; sl st into the same fsc. You have created the first petal. You will create one petal for each fsc of Round 1 for a total of 5 petals. To create the next petal, sl st to the next fsc from Round 1, ch 2 and crochet 7 fhdc, sl st to same st you started from to finish the second petal. Repeat these steps for each fsc from Round 1, to make 5 petals. Slip stitch to join and finish off.
Embellish with a button or surface slip stitches around the center.
Enjoy 🙂
Thanks for the hat pattern.
