Small Spring Mandala Crochet Pattern

Supplies

  • Yarn: Furls Wander Acrylic Yarn. 100 g (3.5 oz) and 120 yds (109 m). 100% Acrylic. Medium-Weight Yarn [4]. 
  • Colors: 1 skein each in Snow, Meadow and Dragonfruit
  • Hook: 5 mm (H). Furls Streamline Swirl Galaxy Pisces
  • Finished Project Yardage: Mandala:  43 g (1.5 oz) and 63 yds (47 m). Mandala Colors: Snow: 34 g (1.20 oz) and 41 yds (38 m), Meadow 3 g (0.11 oz) and 3.6 yds (3.3 m) and Dragonfruit 6 g (0.2 oz) and 7.2 yds (6.6 m)
  • Scissors, Yarn Needle, Stitch Marker

Difficulty Level

Easy

Finished Size

Mandala diameter approximately 6.5 inches 

Gauge

First 3 rounds approximately 3 inches

You can substitute any yarn and hook for this stitch pattern – just remember when you substitute if your gauge is different, the finished size, and amount of yarn used for your project will also be different.

Abbreviations

US Terminology used

ch – chain

ch2sp – chain 2 space

ch5sp – chain 5 space

dc – double crochet

FPdc – front post double crochet

FPsc – front post single crochet

hdc – half double crochet

R – round

sc –  single crochet

sk – skip

sl st – slip stitch

st/sts – stitch/stitches

* to **– Repeat the instructions between the asterisks the number of times indicated. This repeat will contain multiple instructions.

[ ] – at the end of the row – the total number of stitches

( ) – important notes AND sets of stitches to be worked within one stitch, or space

Notes:

The colors used for the Small Spring Mandala Crochet Pattern are: Color A: Snow, Color B: Meadow, Color C: Dragonfruit

Sl st does not count as a stitch and we do not work into it.

Pattern is written with a ch 2 to begin. I prefer to use a double magic ring to begin, as it is more secure. Either is acceptable for this pattern.

TIP: If you are using a ch 2 to begin, leave about a 4-inch yarn tail at the beginning. You will use this yarn tail to close the hole that will be there from using this method to start.

Beginning in R4, the pattern does not have a turning chain for each round because I usually start each new round with a standing st. If you prefer a sl st join and a turning chain, feel free to substitute.

Small Spring Mandala Crochet Pattern Instructions

The project is crocheted in joined rounds.

Using your 5 mm (H) hook (or size required for gauge):

R1: With Color A: Chain 2 and sl st to form a ring, ch 3 (counts as 1 dc) and work 11 dc into the ring. Sl st to the first st to join. [12 dc]

R2: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc) and work 1 FPdc around the first st. *(1 dc, 1 FPdc) in the next st**. Work from * to ** around. Sl st to the first st to join. [12 dc, 12 FPdc]

R3: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc) in the first st, (1 dc, 1 FPdc) in the next st. *1 dc in the next st, (1 dc, 1 FPdc) in the next st**. Work from * to ** around. Sl st to the first st to join. Finish off Color A. [24 dc, 12 FPdc]

R4: With Color B: Join in any FPdc. *(1 hdc, ch 2, 1 hdc) in the FPdc, ch 2, sk the next 2 dc**. Work from * to ** around. Sl st to the first st to join. Finish off Color B. [24 hdc, 24 ch2sp]

R5: With Color A: Join in the first dc that follows any FPdc in R3. *Working in front of ch2sp, 1 dc in each of the next 2 dc from R3, ch 5, sk the next (1 hdc, ch 2, 1 hdc, ch 2)**. Work from * to ** around. Sl st to the first st to join. Finish off Color A. [24 dc, 12 ch5sp]

R6: With Color C: Join in any ch2sp in a (1 hdc, ch 2, 1 hdc) set from R4. *Working in front of the ch5sp from R5, (5 dc, ch 2) in the ch2sp. Sk the next ch2sp. Work from * to ** around. Sl st to the first st to join. Finish off Color C. [60 dc, 12 ch2sp]

R7: With Color A: Join in any ch5sp from R5. *6 dc in the ch5sp from R5, sk the 5 dc worked in R6, working in front of ch2sp from R6, 1 FPdc in each of the next 2 dc from R5**. Work from * to ** around. Sl st to the first st to join. Finish off Color A. [24 FPdc, 72 dc]

R8: With Color C: Join in the first dc from any set of 6 dc in R7. *1 sc in each of the 6 dc, 1 FPsc in each of the next 2 FPdc**. Work from * to ** around. Finish off with an invisible join. [72 sc, 24 FPsc]

Finishing Instructions:

Weave in all ends. 

Block gently if needed.
