Spring Fling Afghan and Pillow

This month, Carol Hegar from Shady Lane Original Crochet Designs has given me a copy of her Spring Fling Afghan and Pillow ePattern to review.

Perfect project for the current season! These charming crochet creations use just single and double crochet stitches. Sc are worked in back loop of st, and dc are worked in front loop of stitch 2 rows below (which form the design). See our website for a how-to video showing just how easy this technique is to do. Includes written patterns plus optional graphs.

Carol Hegar

This 7-page ePattern includes instructions for a pillow and both an adult and a baby-sized afghan.

These afghans are crocheted using just single crochet and double crochet stitches.

Spring Fling Patterns

Baby Afghan | 31 inches X 41 inches | 3.50 mm (E) crochet hook | Baby/Sport/DK Weight Yarn

Adult Afghan | 47 inches X 66 inches | 4 mm (G) crochet hook | Worsted Weight Yarn

Pillow | 14 inches X 14 inches | 4 mm (G) crochet hook | Worsted Weight Yarn

The pattern is formed by cleverly placing dropped dc stitches into the front loop of a stitch from two rows before. It’s very similar in looks to mosaic (or slip stitch) knitting but it is made with easy crochet stitches instead!

Visit Carol’s website to watch her video tutorial that shows you how easy this stitch technique is to do! Watch the video here.

Carol has been specializing in this technique since the mid 1980’s. The technique is the same stitch technique that was used to create the “Trail of Tears” afghan that was so popular in the 1970’s.

It has become very popular again lately using the name of Mosaic Crochet.

Please take the time to read page 2 of the pattern to learn about how the afghans are crocheted and to review the placement of your stitches.

The Spring Fling Afghan and Pillow ePattern is available for purchase from Shady Lane Original Crochet Designs. The current price (which is subject to change) at the time of this post being written is $4.95 USD.

The patterns include instructions written in US Crochet Terms. Optional graphs are provided to illustrate the stitches for those who prefer working from graphs.

  1. It was tough, because I absolutely love sailor outfits, but I think I like the lawn party dress even more.

  2. I love all her designs. My favorite is the scottie doll wardrobe. Thank you for the giveaway.

  3. Your link takes me to the Shady Lane 18″ doll patterns. Of those patterns, the Scottie Dog 18″ Doll Wardrobe is my most favorite. It’s so cute!
