Pattern Set Review

Slumber Party for 18-inch Dolls (#415) is one of Carol Hegar’s most popular 18-inch doll pattern booklets. These patterns were originally designed to fit the 18-inch American Girl dolls. Similarly sized 18″ dolls, such as Springfield, Gotz, Maplea, Our Generation and other generic brands will also look adorable in these sleep-sets.

Suggestions for minor adjustments have been provided in the “Notes from Designer” section at the top of page 2 for any dolls that are a slightly different in size from the original models.

Many children receive dolls as gifts during Christmastime, which means, they will soon be (if they haven’t already!) asking for new outfits for their dolls!

“The four different outfits cover sleepwear for all seasons.  I modeled the Baby Dolls after my own remembrances while a child in the 50’s and 60’s (hence the big hair rollers, remember THEM so well, and sleeping on them!). “

The patterns included in #415, Slumber Party for 18-inch Dolls are:

• Vintage Baby Dolls with “fur” scuffs.
• Night Shirt with matching socks.
• Striped Pajamas with slippers.
• Granny gown with booties.

My favorite design is the Striped Pajamas set, although, I also really like the granny gown…probably because I remember wearing one when I was little!

Yarn Used for the Patterns

The yarn suggested for use with these patterns is Baby/Sport/DK Weight Yarn, with a 3.75 mm (F) crochet hook. Some of the patterns also require Size 10 crochet thread to be used with a Steel-5 hook (1.90 mm) for the trims. The gauge is included for both yarn and thread on page 2 of the pattern.

Three of the patterns use small bits of novelty yarn (like fun fur, or eyelash yarn) to enhance the trim and tops of the slippers.

Additional Supplies

Some of the patterns list a few additional supplies to finish the garments.

• elastic (or rubber band)
• ribbon
• snaps
• buttons

U.S. Crochet Terms

Carol’s patterns are written out in full, in U.S. crochet terminology. Stitch counts have been provided at the end of the rows and rounds. Bold fonts have been used for headings and for each row and round number to make them easy to find.
