Introducing the
Simply Springtime Flower Hat
This is a very simple and light springtime/summer hat pattern – there are 2 different flower embellishments included in the pattern.
The hat is crocheted using a 5.00 mm crochet hook, until the final round where I recommend a larger hook size (6.50 mm) for the decorative slip stitch edging.
Based on popular request I have decided to add this pattern directly to my website 🙂 Please scroll down for the full pattern!

Puff stitch: YO insert hook, pull up 1 loop, YO insert hook, pull up 1 loop, YO insert hook, pull up 1 loop, YO and pull through all 7-loops on the hook
Layered Flowers
Make 2 – using 2 different size hooks – the flowers on the hat pictured used a 4mm and 5mm hook. For larger flowers, or more layers, use a different size hook for each layer (i.e. use a 4mm, 5mm and 6mm for a three layer flower)
R1: AL, ch1, (1 sc, ch1) 6x into the AL (creates 6 ch1 spaces)
R2: (ch2, 1dc) into each ch1sp around (6x), ch2, ss to 1st chain of the round (creates 7 ch2 spaces)
R3: (ch3, tr2tog, ch4, ss) in each ch2 space around (7x), ss to join and F/O (creates 7 petals)
Layer the flowers, one on top of the other and stitch (with a contrasting colour of yarn) through the centre. You can also securely attach a button or bead to the centre, before attaching the flower to the hat.
For the colour change used in the photo, change colour at the end of R1 and then again at the end of R3. To attach the colour for R4, attach the colour in the ch1sp to the right of the final ss of R3.
Hi Deborah, yes, we count the ch1sp as a stitch for this. I responded by email but wanted to add this on the post as a comment as well. All the best, Rhondda
Simply springtime flower hat
Newborn
Round 2 12 stitches
Round 3 says 36 stitches but you only did two dc in each stitch so I get 24. Do you count ch 1 between dc as stitch or what am I doing wrong.
I love the simply spring flower
Thank you Kathy 🙂 I’m happy you like it!
I love how light and delicate the hat looks.the flower is so bright and pretty. Can’t wait to make it for my granddaughters and great nieces.
Hi Nikki 🙂 We were all new once and every Designer writes their patterns differently which does not make it easy when you are trying to learn the craft 🙂 I’m happy you figured it out – if you run into any questions just message me – I will be here tonight (was at the splash pad with my Littles this afternoon!) All the best, Rhondda

Thanks so much for helping me with my super beginner questions. I should be able to do this but I’m lost. For the new born size, when I close my first ring, will I have 6 dc plus my ch 2?
Hi Nikki 🙂 Remember the first chain 3 counts as a double crochet – this might be the stitch you are missing. Let me know – I’m happy to help,
Rhondda
