These flower coasters use very little yarn so they also make fantastic stashbuster projects!

This easy crochet pattern was originally designed by Danyel Pink.

Supplies

  • Lily Sugar’n Cream Cotton. 2 oz (57 g), 95 yds (86 m). 100% Cotton. Medium Weight Yarn [4]. Machine wash warm. Tumble dry low heat, delicate setting. Do not iron. Do not bleach.
  • Crochet Hook: 5 mm (H) 
  • Finished Yardage: Flower Coaster: 0.35 oz (10 g), 16.7 yds (15 m).
  • Scissors, Yarn Needle, Stitch Marker

Difficulty Level

  • Easy

You can substitute any yarn and hook for this project just remember when you substitute the finished size of your project may also be different.

Finished Size

  • Simple Flower Coasters width approximately 5 inches diameter.

Gauge

  • Measures approximately 2.5 inches diameter after Rnd 2.

You can substitute any yarn and hook for this stitch pattern – just remember when you substitute if your gauge is different, the finished size, and amount of yarn used for your project will also be different.

Simple Flower Coaster Pattern

This simple coasters are worked in the round.

Using your 5 mm (H) hook and leaving a 3 inch tail of yarn:

Rnd 1: In a DMR, ch 2 and make 12 dc. Sl st to the first st to join. [12 dc]

Rnd 2: Ch 2, 2 dc in each st around. Sl st to the first st to join. [24 dc]

Rnd 3: Ch 2, 1 dc in the first st, 2 dc in the next st. *1 dc in the next st, 2 dc in the next st**. Work from * to ** around. Sl st to the first st to join. [36 dc]

TIP: if you want your petals to be a different color, finish off the first color here and join the other color with a sl st join, before beginning Rnd 4. If changing colors, the first st of Rnd 4 is in the same st as the join.

Rnd 4: Ch 1, 1 sc in the first st, sk the next st, 5 dc in the next st, sk the next st, 1 sc in the next st. *Sk the next st, 5 dc in the next st, sk the next st, 1 sc in the next st**. Work from * to ** around. Sl st to the first st to join. [9 petals]

TIP: If your petals ‘curl up’ or the coaster will not lie flat, decrease the number of stitches per petal to 4 dc.

Proceed to finishing instructions.

Finishing Instructions

  • Finish off.
  • Weave in your ends securely.
