Santa Hat for Dad!

Here’s how it works.

One of my husband’s coworkers asked me to make him a Santa Hat to wear this winter and I realized I didn’t have one designed quite large enough for him. Here is the new and largest size pattern – sized to fit Dad … and anyone else with a size 23-24 inch head!

This pattern is designed using Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in 2 colors. You can substitute with a similar weight yarn – the gauge information has been included to assist you with finding a suitable replacement. One yarn I know which works well and is of comparable weight is Loops & Threads: Impeccable Yarn.

Red Heart Soft and Caron Simply Soft do not substitute very well for this design as they are lighter weights of yarn and will result in smaller hats than those specified in the directions below.

Notes:

  • leave a 10 inch tail of yarn at the beginning of the brim section to allow you to seam the band (brim) closed once you have completed it
  • do not count the sl st as a stitch unless specified
  • you skip over the ch 2 to work into the first dc of the round BUT you still count the ch 2 as a st (you just do not work into it).

  1. Hi Beverly, I only have the yardages I used written down for my toddler/child size Santa Hat Pattern. Yardage Used: Toddler/Child Size: 84 g and 155 yards (including the pom pom). I know I used less than a single ball of each color for the Adult Santa Hat for Dad but I do not have the exact amounts. I apologize for this. Best wishes, Rhondda

  2. Love to make this hat, how much yarn does it take ? I have to make ten hats, how much yarn will I need ?
