Rocking Horse Afghan Pattern
This month, Carol Hegar from Shady Lane Original Crochet Designs has given me a copy of her Rocking Horse Afghan Pattern to review and a second copy to giveaway to one of my readers!
This pretty textured afghan has an adorable Rocking Horse framed by a border of diamond blocks. You can easily crochet this in any color, making it suitable for a wide-range of recipients.
The entire pattern uses single crochet stitches (sc) worked in the back loop of a stitch, double crochet stitches (dc) worked in a remaining front loop of a stitch from 2 rows before and single crochet bobble stitches. The sc bobble stitches are explained in the Special Stitches Section on page 4.
The pattern is worked on the RS (right side) only, and you will finish-off the strand of yarn you are working with at the end of every row. The project is designed to allow you to create a fringe on the left and right side edges of the blanket. BONUS: You will not have any ends to sew in!
By watching Carol’s helpful step-by-step video tutorial you will be able to master the dropped double crochet technique easily.
This 7-page ePattern is written in U.S. Crochet Terms and uses only simple crochet stitches. Instructions on how to read the pattern and how to recognize the loops of the stitches are included on page 3. Row by row written instructions are included from page 4 to page 6 and the optional Afghan Graph (for those who prefer following graphs) is included on page 7.
The border on two sides is created by overhand knots that are tied which means you have no ends to sew in!

Hi Linda, I’m sorry to hear that you have brittle bone disease. I hope that the titanium replacements are making it easier to do the things you love; especially holding and hugging your grandchildren. Thank you for the idea for a project / pattern / blanket for awareness for oif.org. I’ve written myself a note to look into this more in the future. For the issue with Rafflecopter, you can try the link above the widget in my post. Sometimes, depending upon what browser you are using or computer system the widget doesn’t load properly. There is a link right above the widget that I add to my posts so you can enter via a different screen. For the Rocking Horse Afghan: http://www.rafflecopter.com/rafl/display/9890c9af398/?widget_template=57f3091df222f6ce0bfe77f4 that is the link 🙂 Best wishes over the holiday! Rhondda
I tried for the Rocking Horse Pattern again too and I just cannot get the raffler to work for me. Is anyone else having the same problem?
I still will keep trying because the metal old hooks are flying all over the place out of my bad fingers lol and now my dogs thinks it is a game grr.
I will be prefect by the time I trust myself to actually be able to crochet again when I have a better hook…aluminum just is not cutting it on my 61 year old hands with titanium in them because I am half Frankenstein built of titanium in my bones when each time I break from the brittle bone disease from birth. Then they put it inside the bones also like femurs and long bones so harder for them to break BUT… they still do ugh. Walking for me and hugging the grands has done it…crazy Osteogenesis Imperfects. – Brittle Bone Disease.
If EVER you are wondering on crocheting a special blanket for…the Wishbone would be so neat because they could use all the help they can get because this is a very rare disease.
We are noticed by our stunning blue sclera…I have had people say they are very pretty but I kinda favor white lol.
Then you could also mimic bones like broken and forming or something lol I do not know but anyone that would ever want to maybe do a blanket or something for awareness there is info at oif.org because the disease is osteogenesis imperfecta- or OI for short or Brittle Bones known as because the bones breaking. Also the dislocating joints is no fun either.
Sorry- I talk too much.
Linda
I honestly have a hard time picking one they are all so beautiful. Good Luck to All !!
I’ve always liked the Tribal Traditions Afghan or poncho
Carol has so many great patterns. Today, because it changes often, my favorite is the Cheyenne, #113 Optical Illusion blanket.
