Ric Rac Slouchy – The Purple Poncho – Crochet by Carolyn

I recently had the opportunity to test this pretty design for Carolyn.

This pattern is available via Ravelry:

I really enjoyed crocheting this pattern – the colour changes were much easier than I expected (a cinch really!) and the hat was worked in one piece – even though the brim was worked in a different direction!

I am fascinated by the different ways you can crochet an item – I loved how Carolyn knew exactly how much yarn I would need to enable me to work this design in one piece.

I also loved trying my hand at a design worked from the brim up – I typically follow patterns that are worked from the crown to the brim.

Working in the opposite direction has opened my eyes to the possibility of so many different stitch combinations.

The pattern took me only a few hours to complete – while watching television with my family.  I used a 6.00 mm (J) crochet hook, Craft Smart Value Solids and Red Heart Super Savers for my version.

This hat is for me 🙂

Although my sisters have asked me to crochet some for them too!

You can usually tell if something I crochet is for me, if I have included the colour gray – something about gray is comforting to me…

You can get your copy of this great pattern from Carolyn’s Ravelry shop: Ric Rac Slouchy
