Today I’d like to share a free pattern for a crocheted afghan square. My Reverie Afghan Square is 12 inches by 12 inches when crocheted with medium weight yarn and a 5.5 mm (I) hook. When Reverie is crocheted with DK (Light) Yarn [3] with a 4 mm (G) hook, she measures 9 inches by 9 inches. I have included the yardage you will need for both types of yarn below.
This square was designed as part of the Block A Month CAL on Ravelry.
If you are crocheting with Medium Weight Yarn I recommend you look for a ball of striped yarn (with longish stripes of color) – because then you only need one ball of yarn to make this project! When I finished my Reverie DK Square I wanted to make a photo tutorial for you with medium weight yarn so I pulled a ball of Red Heart Super Saver Stripes yarn from my stash and decided to give it a go. I simply worked each round in a separate color and saved any extra of the previous color for the final rounds of the project. I think it is a fun way to use some of the striped yarn we might have in our stash 🙂

Notes
- This project is worked in rounds.
- Turn at the end of each round.
- Change colors every round.
- Sk all stitches not specifically mentioned in the instructions.
- Join with a standing sc can be replaced with: Join new yarn with a sl st. Ch 1 and work 1 sc in the same stitch. Do not count the sl st or ch 1 as a stitch.
- Please note, in the tutorial images I left one yarn end out to remind you when you are looking at the WS (wrong side) of the project. It helped me to keep track of turning. You may alternately put a stitch marker on the right side of your project to keep tabs on which is which side.

See this square in the Keep the Faith Blanket. Pam from Live your best crochet life made it and her finished blanket is lovely!
Thank you for trying the pattern Pam 🙂 Your finished blanket is lovely – I’ve shared it online today so I hope you see some traffic from it – I love seeing afghans when they are complete and use designs from different designers. Your blanket is bright and happy to look at 🙂
Wishing you the very best, Rhondda
Thank you for sharing this free pattern! I have incorporated it into my latest blanket and have shared the link to your site on mine. It’s a beautiful square, thanks again!
