The Red Festive Cowl is a soft and warm project made with Bulky Weight yarn and a 6 mm (J) hook. The simple 2-row repeat works up fast and uses only one skein, so it is a great choice for a quick gift or a relaxing weekend make. The texture builds evenly, and the stitches stay easy to follow as you repeat the rows.

Make a soft and warm cowl with one skein of Bulky yarn and a simple 2-row repeat. A quick winter project.

You can make this scarf with any yarn and hook you have on hand. I’ve included instructions after the pattern to explain how to adjust the size.

The Festive Red Cowl Pattern was originally designed by Joanita Theron. Joanita sold the full-pattern rights to Oombawka Design, Ltd. This pattern is now available exclusively at Oombawka Design Crochet. I have rewritten and updated this pattern.

Crocheters Often Ask

How much yarn do I need?

You need one skein of Bulky Weight yarn (175 yds) to make the sample cowl.

Can I make the cowl longer or wider?

Yes. Add more rows for length or adjust your starting chain with the stitch multiple noted in the pattern.

Does this pattern have a lot of counting?

The 2-row repeat is simple to follow and stays repetitive once you begin.

Can I use a smaller hook?

You can. A smaller hook will make the texture tighter and change the finished size.
