Rainbow Flower Necklace Crochet Pattern

Supplies

  • Yarn: Light Worsted Weight / DK Weight Yarn [3]
  • Colors: Green, Pink, Cream, Purple, Aqua, Yellow and Dark Pink
  • Crochet Hook: 3 mm 
  • Finished project yardage: small amounts of each color
  • Scissors, Yarn Needle, Stitch Marker, small button

Difficulty Level

  • Easy

Finished Sizes

  • Fits ages 3-5 years when crocheted with with a 3 mm hook
  • For a larger size use a larger hook (4 mm hook suggested for adult, 3.5 mm hook suggested for teens)

Gauge

Due to the nature of this pattern, the yarn and hook used is only a suggestion. Any Light Weight Yarn will provide similar results.

You can substitute any yarn and hook for this stitch pattern – just remember when you substitute if your gauge is different, the finished size of your project will also be different.

US Terminology used

  • ch – chain
  • ch5sp – chain 5 space
  • g – grams
  • m – meters
  • oz – ounces
  • R – row
  • rem – remaining
  • rep – repeat
  • sc – single crochet
  • sk – skip
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • st/sts – stitch/stitches
  • yds – yds
  • * – ** Repeat the instructions between the asterisks the number of times indicated. This repeat will contain multiple instructions.
  • () – Repeat the instructions between the parentheses the number of times indicated.
  • [] – at the end of the row – the total number of stitches

Tutorials

Notes

  • Neck strings can be made to any size by increasing the number of chains you start with.
  • This is a great project to use up scrap yarn you have leftover from other projects.
  • Use crochet thread and a smaller hook for a more delicate necklace.
  • I use a DMR (double magic ring) to begin my projects that are worked in rounds. You may substitute a magic ring (magic circle), or a chain 3 and slip to form a ring, if you prefer. See the alternate starting methods here.

Rainbow String Flower Necklace Pattern

This project is a fun way to use up your scrap yarn.

Using your 3 mm crochet hook, or size required for gauge:

Neck Strings

  • Make 4-6 strings (sample was made with 5) each in a different color of yarn.

String 1:

(2 strings were used in the sample)

R1: Ch 90, sk the first 5 chs, 1 sc in each rem ch across. Ch 5, sl st into the bottom of the last sc worked.  [86 sc, 2 ch5sp]

Finish off and weave in ends securely.

String 2:

(2 strings were used in the sample)

R1: Ch 100, sk the first 5 chs, 1 sc in each rem ch across. Ch 5, sl st into the bottom of the last sc worked.  [96 sc, 2 ch5sp]

Finish off and weave in ends securely.

String 3:

(1 string was used in the sample)

R1: Ch 110, sk the first 5 chs, 1 sc in each rem ch across. Ch 5, sl st into the bottom of the last sc worked.  [106 sc, 2 ch5sp]

Finish off and weave in ends securely.

Assembly 

String End 1

R1: Place a slip knot on your hook, insert your hook through the ch5sp loop on one end of each of the strings. Make 6 sc into the ch5sp loop. [6 sc]

Finish off and weave in ends.

String End 2

R1: Place a slip knot on your hook, insert your hook through the ch5sp loop on one end of each of the strings. Make 6 sc into the ch5sp loop. Ch 6, sl st to join. [6 sc, ch6sp]

Finish off and weave in ends.

Simple Crochet Flower Pattern

The flower uses 4 colors. When you join new yarn you can change colors as you like. The first color is the center of the flower so yellow is recommended.

Rnd 1: DMR: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 11 dc. Sl st to the top of the initial ch 3 to join. Finish off and weave in ends. [12 dc]

Rnd 2: Working in front loops only: Join new yarn in the FL of any st with a sl st. (Ch 3, 2 dc, ch 3, sl st) in the FL of the next st. *Sl st in the FL of the next st, (ch 3, 2 dc, ch 3, sl st) in the FL of the next st**. Work from * to ** around. Sl st to join. [6 petals]

Rnd 4: Ch 4, sk the BL behind the first petal, sl st to the next back loop.*Ch 4, sk the BL behind the next petal, sl st to the next back loop**. Work from * to ** around. Sl st to join. Finish off and weave in ends. [6 ch4sp]

Rnd 5: Join new yarn in any ch4sp with a sl st. (Ch 3, 1 dc, 2 tr, 1 dc, ch 3, sl st) in the ch4sp. *Sl st in the next ch4sp, *(ch 3, 1 dc, 1 tr, 1 dc, ch 3, sl st) in the next ch4sp**. Work from * to ** around. Sl st to join. [6 petals]

Rnd 6: *Ch 5, sl st in between the petals**. Work from * to ** around. Sl st to join. Finish off and weave in ends.[6 ch5sp]

Rnd 7: Join new yarn in any ch5sp with a sl st. (Ch 3, 2 dc, 2 tr, 2 dc, ch 3, sl st) in the same ch5sp. *Sl st in the next ch5sp. (Ch 3, 2 dc, 2 tr, 2 dc, ch 3, sl st) in the same ch5sp**. Work from * to ** around. Sl st to join. Finish off and weave in ends. [6 petals]

Finishing Instructions
  • Sew the flower to the end of the strings that does not have the ch5sp.
  • Sew a small button on the back of the flower over the neck strings.
