Tube Strap for Your Quick Woven Bag

R1: Ch 101, sk the first ch, 1 sc in the next ch and each rem ch across. Ch 1, turn. [100 sc]

R2: 1 sc in each st across. Ch 1, turn. [100 sc]

R3: 1 sc in each st across. Do not turn. Fold in half and working through both layers make 1 sl st in each st in R3 and the corresponding (lined up once folded) base of the foundation ch from R1 across (this creates a tube).

Proceed to finishing instructions.

Fold and Seam the Side Edges

Finishing Instructions

  • Fold your quick woven bag in half and sew the 2 short edges (side edges) together using your preferred seaming method. I recommend a whipstitch seam.
  • You may wish to work a final round of single crochet around the top opening of the bag. Work 1 sc in every sc and in every ch1sp. Finish off with a slip stitch and weave in your ends.
  • Sew the Tube Strap to the bag along the 2 short edge seams.
  • Weave in any remaining ends.
  • Add an optional zipper closure to the top of the bag or even a pretty fabric liner if you wish.

You can use any yarn and hook to make this project!
  1. With the yarn and hook you’ve chosen for the project, chain until you reach the width you’d like for your bag; or chain until your width measures approximately 12 inches.
  2. Check that your number of chains can be divided by 2 evenly (to match the stitch multiple).
  3. Follow the pattern as written, repeating R2 and R3.
  4. Continue crocheting until your project is the length you would like it to be, or until it measures approximately 24 inches long.
  5. Fold the bag in half and sew the 2 side edges together, on each side (using a whipstitch seam). Leave the top of the bag open.
  6. Work an optional round of single crochet stitches along the top opening of the bag to give it a tidy edge (make 1 sc in each sc and in each ch1sp).
  7. Finish off and weave in your ends.
  8. Create the Tube Strap by chaining until you reach a length of 24 inches (or your desired strap length). Follow the pattern for the Tube Strap as written.
  9. Finish off leaving a tail for adding the strap to the bag on the two side edges along the side seam.
  10. Weave in any remaining ends.
