Pick Your Stitch, Build a Blanket – 80 Knit Stitches, Endless Combinations
This book really has a fantastic selection of Knit Stitches (80 in total!) you can choose from – you can choose to work an Afghan using blocks:
With a simple gauge swatch you can determine what size blocks you will create with the handy chart available on page 6. The instructions then explain how many blocks you will need to make specific blanket sizes – including Carriage Size, Crib/Baby-Blanket Size, Lap Robe and a Full Sized Afghan. You will also find the Yardage required by Yarn Weight and Project Size – so yes – you can choose whichever yarn you want for your blanket and the instructions will still apply!
You can choose your stitches to make a vertically patterned Afghan:
Or a horizontally patterned Afghan:
Or choose a single stitch pattern to make your Afghan:
Choose one of the 80 stitch patterns included in the book and make an entire Afghan with the stitch – the instructions included on page 9 outline how you determine the pattern stitches you will need to knit. This is based on the stitch pattern multiples and your gauge swatch numbers.
Some of the stitches included in this book are:
- Fleck Stitch (p 13)
- Check Pattern (p 14)
- Farrow Rib (p 16)
- Double Basket Weave (p 17) **I love this one!**
- King Charles Brocade (p 25)
- Eyelet Twigs (p 34)
- Little Shell Pattern (p 42)
- Faggoting (p 45) **this is so pretty!**
- Eyelet Mock Cable Rib (p 49)
- Four Stitch Cable 2 (p 58)
This book is a fantastic resource – filled with stitches you can knit to make Single Pattern Afghans with any yarn/needle combination and instructions to make Sampler Afghans, Horizontally Patterned Afghans and Vertically Patterned Afghans.
The final section of the book includes the knit stitch basics, knitting terms and assembly instructions for your Afghans.
