Peek-a-Boo Bear Blanket

This month, Carol Hegar from Shady Lane Original Crochet Designs has given me a copy of her Peek-a-Boo Bear Blanket Crochet ePattern to review.

I’m really pleased with how this afghan turned out. It’s a great all-around crochet blanket pattern for a boy or a girl. I designed it using worsted weight yarn so it would work up a bit faster than the usual baby yarn. I love the soft worsted weight baby yarns that are being made today.

This 8-page ePattern includes instructions for a baby-size afghan and a child-size afghan.

The teddy bear is featured in the afghan as a filled-in bear shape, a bear in a block and the outline of a bear.

The Peek-a-Boo Bear Blanket is crocheted using just single crochet stitches and dropped double crochet stitches.

Peek-a-Boo Bear Blanket

Baby Afghan | 34.75 inches X 46.5 inches | 4 mm (G) crochet hook | Worsted Weight Yarn [4]

Child Afghan | 39.75 inches X 53 inches | 5.5 mm (I) crochet hook | Worsted Weight Yarn [4]

The pattern is formed by cleverly placing dropped dc stitches into the front loop of a stitch from two rows before. It’s very similar in looks to mosaic (or slip stitch) knitting but it is made with easy crochet stitches instead!

Visit Carol’s website to watch her video tutorial that shows you how easy this stitch technique is to do! Watch the video here.

Carol has been specializing in this technique since the mid 1980’s. The technique is the same stitch technique that was used to create the “Trail of Tears” afghan that was so popular in the 1970’s.

It has become very popular again lately using the name of Mosaic Crochet.

Please take the time to read page 2 of the pattern to learn about how the afghans are crocheted and to review the placement of your stitches.

The Peek-a-Boo Bear Blanket is available for purchase from Shady Lane Original Crochet Designs. The current price (which is subject to change) at the time of this post being written is $7.95 USD.

The patterns include instructions written in US Crochet Terms. Optional graphs are provided to illustrate the stitches for those who prefer working from graphs.

If you would like to get your own copy today, you can use this coupon to receive 15% off: BAWKA and the coupon can be used on any of the patterns on her site.

  1. I’m so excited that I won!! I’m ready to read further details of the pattern and get started on it if I have the yarn in my stash. I probably don’t have enough of one color, so I may have to wait until I can get the yarn.

  2. I love the #415, Slumber Party for 18-inch Dolls. Those pj’s are just adorable!

  3. Your link only shows her doll patterns page. Of those doll patterns, her #216, Caribbean Cruise for 18-inch Dolls are super cute! I love the theme of shipboard adventures 🙂

  4. Love the #315, Play Clothes. The black, white and yellow outfit is so sweet. Wish I knew someone with a doll this size…

Thanks for the chance to win

  5. I love Shady Lane’s patterns she is so unique, her American doll clothes are awesome and I also like quite a few of her mosaic afghans especially the one with the elephants. This particular baby afghan is just the cutest and would be lovely shower gift to give.
