Part 2 Wonder CAL Alternate Afghan Size Version

This post is specific to the Wonder Crochet Blanket CAL, 2016. This alternate size version will allow you to create any size blanket using the stitch multiple 6 sts + 3 which was used in Part 1 of the CAL.

Only use this version if you are resizing the original blanket to a different size based on the stitch pattern multiple of 6 sts + 3.

Wonder Crochet Blanket CAL 2016

Alternate Size Version: Wonder Blanket CAL Part 2

Note: Count the ch 1 as a stitch because you will be working into the ch 1.  Do not count the dc5tog or FPdc5tog as stitches – you do not work into the decreases.

R1 (RS): Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in the next st; 5 dc in the next st, dc5tog, ch 1, *5 dc in the next st, dc5tog, ch 1 *.
Repeat from * to * to the last st (remember the turning ch from the previous row counts as a stitch) and work 1 dc in the last st. [do not count the decrease(s)- dc5tog – as stitches]

R2: ch 3 (Note: the ch 3 counts as 1 dc st), turn; work 5 dc in the next ch, * skip the next decrease, work FPdc5tog, ch 1, work 5 dc in the next ch *. Repeat from * to * across to the last 2 sts. Work 1 dc in each of the last 2 sts of the row [do not count the decrease(s) – FPdc5tog – as stitches]

R3: ch 3 (Note: the ch 3 counts as 1 dc st), turn, 1 dc in the next st; * work 5 dc in the next ch, skip the next decrease,
work FPdc5tog, ch 1 *. Repeat from * to * across to the last st. Work 1 dc in the last st. [do not count the decrease(s) – FPdc5tog – as stitches]

R4: Rep R2

R5: Rep R3

R6: ch 2 (counts as 1 hdc), 1 hdc in the next st, 1 hdc in the ch 1, sk the dec, 1 dc in the next st, *1 hdc in next, 1 sc in
each of the next 2 sts, 1 hdc in the next st, 1 hdc in the ch 1, sk the dec st, 1 dc in next st** Rep from * to ** across to the last 5 sts. 1 hdc in the next st. 1 sc in each of the next 4 sts. [do not count the decrease(s) as stitches]

The alternate version will not look exactly as pictured above – the skip 1 stitch for the first Row was eliminated in order to make the stitch multiple work.

  1. Hi 🙂 This version works with a stitch pattern multiple of 6 + 3. If you chained 328 stitches initially at the end of R1 you would have 327 (because you lose 1 stitch for the turning chain); which gives you 327 stitches – 3 = 324 divided by 6 = 54 so yes it works 🙂 At the end of Mistie’s section you should have 327 stitches and it will work with my instructions.

  2. I am doing the Wonder Crochet Blanket CAL alternate size. I confirmed with Mistie on Part 1 in regards to changing my stitch count in order to cover a king-size bed. So I have a stitch count of 328. When crocheting your first row, I ended up with 5 dc, leaving 1 stitch for the final double crochet. But I think, the way I am reading the pattern, that I should end with dec5 together leaving 1 stitch for the final double crochet. Will your row 1 work with 328 stitches? Thanks.
