The Olivia Puff Stitch Hat is a soft and textured hat that works up with simple stitches and a nice, steady rhythm. I made mine with City Tweed Aran/HW and loved the finished look. City Tweed also comes in DK Weight, so I’m thinking about ordering some for a spring project too. I may still give in and order more Aran/HW yarn because it works so well for fall and winter hats.
You’ll find the full written pattern below, with all sizes from preemie to adult large, plus helpful notes, stitch information, and finishing tips.

The Yarn
City Tweed Aran / HW is a soft and nubby tweed yarn with a warm feel and a classic look. It blends Merino wool, superfine alpaca, and rayon to create a cozy yarn with gentle texture and depth. It works well for hats, scarves, and other fall and winter projects.

Yarn Weight: Aran / Medium
Texture: Nubby, tweedy
Fiber Content: 55% Merino wool, 25% Superfine alpaca, 20% Rayon
Yardage: 100 g; 150 m (164 yds) per ball
Recommended Needles: 4.5 mm (US 7) or 5.5 mm (US 9)
Gauge: 16–18 sts per 10 cm (4″)
Care: Hand wash, dry flat
Try King Cole Cottagespun Chunky yarn. It makes a great substitute!

Crocheters Often Ask
You can add or remove puff stitch rounds to change the height. Each extra round adds about 0.75 inch.
Yes. You can substitute another yarn, but changes in yarn weight and hook size will change the finished size and yardage.
The hat starts with a double magic ring, but you can use your favorite starting method if you prefer.
I like to use an invisible join for a clean edge. A slip stitch join also works if you prefer something simpler.

Hi Ivy, A CAL is a crochet along. It can be done in many different ways – some people do a large project over the course of a year, or release a pattern for people to make over the course of a few weeks to a few months. We do a scarf and hat pattern every month during the year so that by Wintertime if you participate you have some projects to give as gifts or donate to a local charity, or shelter in your area. Often in the winter here different churches collect donations for those in need and some of our schools collect and then donate as a group to a local charity or organization in the bigger cities. Hope this helps, Rhondda
Hi Im a little confused and do love all the patterns CAL stands for ??? I forgot and are their places to donate our crocheted items?? If so Id love to participate
