Yeah! It’s my turn to share with you my newest 12-inch afghan square pattern. My October Afghan Square, is Block 22 in this year’s MooglyCAL2020 .

This is Tamara’s seventh MooglyCAL and I honestly love participating. Each year she creates a wonderful crochet-along experience, with fully-tested afghan squares that can be assembled into a beautiful year-end blanket.

Each square uses Red Heart with Love Yarn (from Yarnspirations) and a 6 mm (J) hook. So far this year there have been 21 beautiful MooglyCAL2020 Blocks revealed.

Access the full written pattern in the blog post below for FREE.

PIN this pattern for later here.

If you would prefer the ad-free PDF (which includes the stitch diagram) it is available for purchase on Ravelry.

If you share your finished project on Instagram, share it with #ODCMakers so I can see it too!

ch2sp – chain 2 space

drdc – dropped double crochet

fl – front loop

R – round

rep – repeat

Special Stitches

Dropped double crochet (drdc): A double crochet stitch worked into the unworked front loop of a stitch located directly below 2 rounds before.

The stitch will be worked in the front loop of the stitch immediately below the next stitch in the current row.

The double crochet stitch is worked as a regular dc stitch: Yarn over, insert the hook under the front loop of the specified stitch, from bottom to top, yarn over and pull up 1 loop. Yarn over and pull through 2 loops, yarn over and pull through the last 2 loops.

Notes:

Round by round photos are included at the end of the post.

There is an ad-free PDF of this pattern available (which includes the stitch diagram) for purchase on Ravelry.

Beginning in R2 all single crochet stitches are worked in the back loop only (except for those worked into the ch2sp), until R18.

All double crochet stitches are worked in the front loop only, in the stitch immediately below the next st of the round, but made 2 rounds prior. The stitch behind the double crochet is always skipped.

Color A: Dusty Grape, Color B: Platinum, Color C: Pewter and Color D: Stone.

Pattern is written with a ch 4, sl st to form a ring to begin. I prefer to use a double magic ring to begin, as it is more secure. Either is acceptable for this pattern.

Pattern is written with a sl st join at the end of each round. I prefer to use an invisible join instead because it is tidier. Either is acceptable for this pattern up to the last round.

Pattern does not have a turning chain for each round because I usually start each new round with a standing st. If you prefer a sl st join and a turning chain, feel free to substitute.
