These designs are made using simple crochet stitches. All color changes are made at beginning of rows, so you are only working with one color at a time.

The pattern is formed by cleverly placing dropped dc stitches into the front loop of a stitch from two rows before. It’s very similar in looks to mosaic (or slip stitch) knitting but it is made with easy crochet stitches instead!

Visit Carol’s website to watch her video tutorial that shows you how easy this stitch technique is to do! Watch the video here.

Carol has been specializing in this technique since the mid 1980’s. The technique is the same stitch technique that was used to create the “Trail of Tears” afghan that was so popular in the 1970’s.

It has become very popular again lately using the name of Mosaic Crochet.

The patterns include instructions written in US Crochet Terms. Optional graphs are provided to illustrate the stitches for those who prefer working from graphs.

Please take the time to read pages 2-3 of the pattern to learn about how the projects are constructed and to review the stitches being used.

The Native American Placemats and Table Runners ePattern is available for purchase from Shady Lane Original Crochet Designs. The current price (which is subject to change) at the time of this post being written is $8.95 USD.

If you would like to get your own copy today, you can use this coupon to receive 15% off: BAWKA and the coupon can be used on any of the patterns on her site.

  1. I love all the Native American themed patterned (pot holders, placemats, etc). They are all so pretty.

  2. Hi Cindy, You are very welcome! Yes, Carol has some amazing patterns available and I am honored she allows me to do the review and giveaway each month for her 🙂 Wishing you the very best, Rhondda

  3. Hi Verna 🙂 I hope you are doing well! I agree about the pot holders. I think it would be a great project and when I am trying something new – I like smaller projects first. I’d hate to get half way through something giant to learn I’d made multiple mistakes earlier on (this has happened to me before multiple times!). Have a lovely weekend, Rhondda

  4. Shady Lane’s Holiday Pot Holders look like fun to make without a huge time commitment.

  5. Thank you so much for providing us with so many aweso.e patterns & giveaways! Love the Native American potholders & blankets from this designer!
